10 month old baby Z is at nursery when he begins to choke on his food during lunch time. Claudia, who is first aid trained and in charge of the room sees to him straight away. At first she pats him on the back to try and ease the food out. It's not working and time is running out. Claudia turns baby Z upside down and smacks him on the back, which causes the food to finally come out of his mouth. Sadly, poor baby Z is unconscious. Claudia starts CPR and manages to bring him back! Yaaaay!!!
Unfortunatly, Claudia has been a total bitch and accidently fractured two of Baby Z's ribs. His parents, Shaun and Kizzy are outraged. They want to take Z and his sister, Smithy straight out of that nursery and sue.
Poor Claudia has to go to court.
Is Claudia in the wrong? Or are Z's parents total assholes?

Cracked ribs will heal, a dead baby won't.
I would be kissing her feet if it was my child.

Yeah, Shaun and Kizzy are being total arseholes.
The parents should be grateful they still have their child alive thanks to this girl.

Couldn't have put it better.....
Maybe Shaun and Kizzy are in shock but they should be eternally grateful and quite reassured that the staff are CPR trained

you'd be very surprised. Some parents do act like this when a serious incident happens and the child is saved...
but yeah i think the parents are total assholes
i'd rather have a baby come home with a fracture/break/bruise, than never come home at all.

Cracked ribs are to be expected if you have to perform CPR on a baby that young, their bones are still soft.
However, we're not really getting the full story so its hard to say if they're justified in being angry. Was the baby given food that was too hard / tough for them to chew in the first place? Were they being properly supervised while eating? Did the staff handle the explanation of what happened sensitively or were they dismissive arsehats about it? Were they understanding of the fact that the parents would understandably be shocked by what had happened, or did they go straight on the defensive?
Can't really judge without the answers to those questions, TBH... I can't say my anger would be totally soothed by the fact that a staff member saved my child's life IF their life was only in danger in the first place due to staff negligence...

Z should chew his food the greedy bastard :fist:
No, but seriously, the parents are arseholes, their baby would probably be dead if it wasn't for claudia

There were 2 members of staff sitting with 5 babies, the food was purified but he choked on a rusk. They handled it fine, filled out an accident report sheet and called the parents straight after the ambulance was called. Parents were obviously shocked but blamed the staff straight away.

The parents are at fault is everything was followed via nursery policy, there is no comeback for claudia.... This is a hypothetical right? :/

We nearly had an incidence once where we had to call an ambulance but thankfully someone managed to stop the child from choking. There was no marking on the child, thankfully. The parents were grateful and even wrote a letter thanking that member of staff!

The parents are being arseholes and should be grateful. Cracked ribs is a risk of cpr too.
Someone I know died quite suddenly and unexpectedly, and you know how everyone kinda panics..well this guy started doing cpr on her and cracked 4 (I think) ribs and the police were going to do him for it, even though he was trying to help
But yeah to answer the OP, the parents are being out of order - this person saved their kid's life, the last thing they should be doing is taking them to court!

Why would she get community service, if she did nothing wrong?
If she followed the right procedures, as it sounds like she did, she is not going to be found guilty and given community service.
The parents should be publicly criticised for their over-reaction and possible greed for potensially seeking some sort of financial claim, if she is found innocent. The nursery should should also tell them to do one, what nursery in their right minds would want to look after a child of theirs now.
Assuming she did follow the correct procedures, the parents are either completly neurotic or greedy parasites looking to financially benefit from the situation.
