Westboro Baptist Church Fred Phelp’s Deathbed Confession “I’m Gay”
The 84 year old founder of the notorious Westboro Baptist Church is barely clinging to life at a Midland hospice house in Topeka Kansas. The man who seemingly dedicated his entire life to tormenting homosexuals allegedly made a startling confession while at death’s door. He announced to a roomful of stunned family members that he was indeed, a homosexual.
“We were just all sitting there because grandpa said he wanted to tell us something really important”, said Genevieve Phelps. Genevieve, along with several of her aunts and uncles sat huddled around the dying old man to hear him out. “He just looked at us all and smiled and said, I’m sorry. I’m gay. Our jaws just dropped, I mean… It doesn’t make any sense. We’re all just praying that this is somehow related to his illness or the medication he’s on. He’s really delirious and half the time he’s not making any sense at all. Regardless, it was very hard to hear after he spent his entire life fighting the scourge of homosexuality in the name of the Lord our God.”
This shocking proclamation is likely to throw a permanent monkey wrench in the works of the already scandalous Kansas church. The 84-year-old preacher established the small Kansas chapel in 1955 and made it a household name by picketing funerals, public events and businesses with hateful signs attacking gay people, Jews and others who he deemed sinners.
Several estranged relatives revealed that Fred had been excommunicated from his own house of worship in August of 2013 over matters that still remain a mystery.
Now, after protesting at the funeral’s of multiple fallen soldiers, the Phelps family requested that the rest of the world grant them privacy and respect while their nefarious leader finishes his journey to meet his maker.
Several gay activists have reportedly been gleefully celebrating the impending demise of the spiteful old codger.
A man named Nathan McDaniels was spotted dancing gracefully on the lawn in front of the Phelps compound last night sporting a full length scarlet gown embroidered with the Latin phrase “debitum naturae”. When we inquired what he was doing there, he gave us a wry smile and responded “Oh, you know… Just waiting for God to flush the toilet..”

It really annoys me when people try to portray all homophobes as being homosexual. Same thing they did with Putin before the Olympics.
Why do pople think it's cute or funny to imply that straight people cannot be homophobes, all homophobes are actually just closeted gay men?
It's offensive.

Not like there's much to celebrate really, obviously he's an awful person but he's lived a long life, his Church and his views have achieved worldwide notoriety, like Alex said he's now largely handed over to his daughter and it seems like he will die of natural causes. It's not a cult. it's a religion. and WBC are no more hateful or destructive than any of the other big ones.
Just because the other religions are better at disguising their bigotry in politically correct language doesn't make them any less crazy or hateful. and at least this one isn't flying planes into buildings.

i wonder though Josy, if you think about it objectively.,.. who is responsible for more hatred and bigotry... the catholic church has certainly caused a million times more misery than the WBC...Islam as well(I don't need to give examples of Islam's violence). I think of jewish snipers shooting at a gay rights parade in Jerusalem, or orthodox jews harassing young girls walking to school for not covering themselves.
Is WBC really so hateful? or are they just more honest?
I think WBC is actually preaching THE BIBLE, as it is written. They are being honest about their religion. unlike many other religious folks who just like to pretend that certain scriptures don't exist. At least they are being honest about what the scriptures actually say.
They speak the hate that is actually written in the scriptures. They expose the scriptures for what they are, hate speech.
The truth is Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, are no different than the KKK. The WBC just make it more obvious. They don't hide behind pretty speech, or politically correct wordage.
The other religions say "love the sinner hate the sin", and the WBC says "god hates fags", but they are all saying the same thing. They all say that God condemn gays.
and they are all telling lies, because the truth is, there is no God.

18-03-2014, 02:08 AM
as someone who was raised catholic, i would argue that the whole argument that other religions are more loving or true, is actually more harmful to our youth.
I was raised in a so-called "loving" church community, and no matter what nice words they use, it was always clear that being gay was wrong, and that homosexuals go to hell, and that being gay is wrong.
Atleast the WBC are honest and direct about it.
You contradict yourself a bit here

So then you admit they are a hate group?
I do understand the point you are making Alex but they are still only true to the parts of the bible they want to be true to, for example they don't accept communion when it states in the bible you must accept it.

i don't think anything in the bible is truly clear. is the fact that a man was able to live in the belly of a whale also clear? the bible makes no attempt to explain how that was possible, it's just a miracle.
Is the idea that a burning bush was able to speak and communicate the will of God also clear? again, no explanation how it's possible, it's just a miracle.
nothing in the bible is clear. it's a hodge-podge of superstitious nonsense. But if you are gonna believe in the bible, then you have to believe in it all, and the WBC makes it perfectly clear how ridiculous and absurd the bible actually is.
You were the one that brought the bible up to further your point.
I stand by my opinion that they are a hate group/cult.

I only reacted to classifying WBC specifically as a "cult". Aslong as we classify all organized religions as a cult, we have no disagreement, Josy.
I think the Pope telling Africans that it's against God's will to use condoms, in the middle of an AIDS epidemic in Africa, is far more evil than the dozen or so WBC members standing outside of a funeral holding offensive signs.

I agree, I don't understand why they would even give him any recognition if they were so against him living, his family are probably delighted about it, I think I remember seeing in one of the documentaries that they don't actually feel any sadness if a family member dies because they believe they are just in heaven.

Such a pity that as a Christian, he didn't adhere to that doctrine himself.
Not sure I understand the outpouring of reasonableness following this man's death. I'm not saying people should be putting out the flags but personally I'm glad he's dead. Maybe the loved ones of the troops and the gay people whose funerals he and his dickhead friends picketed will be having a little celebration, and seriously, who could blame them? He was a bigot who preached hate and the world is a better place now he's not infesting it any longer. Whatever next, a remembrance thread for Hitler? After all, he was a human being. Right?
First class post, pretty much sums up my feelings on this as well.
Well put Livia.
