Absolutely love his documentaries, I just cannot sit through a whole documentary on animal cruelty. This is the first docu he has done that I just will not watch.

Louis Theroux's LA stories : city of dogs ending with views on the Baptist church giving away a free gun 24.03.14

thank you BBC
my gratitude is true
i am going to be complementary
when i give mass respect to mr Theroux.
i have seen Louis before
so i am under no illusion
acting as as a "punter" trying to score
Louis opened up a new world to prostitution.
with a style that's unique
his investigation has no passes
when you see Louis you think "geek"
defiantly influenced by the black glasses.
very brave its not disputed
Louis is under the nail
his blatant questions and front seem not suited
he goes against the wind in every sail.
thank you for the LA dog report
the volunteer to help did baffle ( dogman)
but the USA does always produce a strange report
proved by today's news a Baptist church is giving away a gun in a raffle.

(if you wanted to see the show that inspired this poem here is a little about it - http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2014/mar/22/louis-theroux-la-stories-preview - i strongly recommend you try to see this some how. if you wanted to see about the church that is giving away a free gun in today's news you can visit here
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/gun-worshiper-wins-gun-church-raffle-article-1.1731578 or if you wanted to find more about this great man Louis you can visit here http://louistheroux.com/bbc-2-specials/
as for dogman - what a great man he is. i don't no what has happened in his life for him to decicate his life to these dogs but it is so respected by me. if you have any views on this great show please feel free to put in your bark. )

I find him obnoxious. he wants to be seen as an objective journalist, but really he's just a troll like Borat or Bruno. He goes into every situation trying to provoke specific reactions and already knows that he wants to portray these people in a certain light before he starts.

He's a manipulative troll.

with all due respect - i do not no if you watch the same show as i do but he was nothing of the sort. or from what i seen. the most non threatening lovely bloke that walks the earth. but i do understand we all see shows different and i am glad for your take on loui.

so you don't think he purposefully picks crazy characters knowing he can troll them for entertainment value?

we must be watching different shows. maybe they edit his shows differently in there UK. But he is a total troll, and he picks people that are mentally ill for entertainment purposes knowing he is making a fool of them and knowing they are not representative of their communities at all.

I've lived in LA and in no way is this so-called "LA story" in anyway about LA. you can find crazy dog owners in any city, Paris, Tokyo and London.

point taken - but i disagree - if loui was to do a show on gardening and show gardeners watering plants - or a show on sewing and show people sewing or a show on eating healthy and show people eating vegetables all day - it would get very tiring and boring. so on your first point of

does he pick crazy people for entertainment ?

i have to say yes but it is to highlight the problem there is and to get that bit nearer to getting a solution.and to show the world what is going on and i think this helps to protect people as signs can be spotted to when these problems start hopefully.

as for your point on edit - i think it may be the way me and you perceive things.

for your point on picking on the mentally ill ? i would ask you who is meant to be helping these people ? have they been already abandoned ?

is he making a fool out of them or reaching out to the authority to show these people need a bit more help ?

your last point of crazy dogs in every city you go to ? have to disagree - i saw with my own eyes and the numbers that are in kennels and put to sleep is record high in the usa - this must suggest to you there is a problem which loui done so well of highlighting.

in all fantastic show and i got what i want from in and i see the problem loui presented - i just prey things happen from this as its not beneficial to the dogs or to the community as a whole.

lostalex - i thought i would leave you a link to a song you might enjoy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkuu0Lwb5EM

The point Louis made in the Radio Times this week was that in other cities like London and Paris you do not get feral stray dogs roaming about like in LA. Brits and the French have different attitudes to dogs. The people he chose to feature were amazing dog lovers but each of the 4 main ones had a different approach to the dog problem LA faces. It was an excellent piece of journalism that showed out relationships with dogs to the full.

I lived in LA for 4 years and i never saw a feral dog, i find it hard to believe Louis Theroux just happened to catch a bunch of them on camera unless someone set it up for the cameras.

British people have a stereotype about america, which would be like all american's judging the UK based on watching Benefits Street.

It;'s a load of ****. You can find crazy people that prove your point on camera wherever you go. Depends what point you're trying to prove though. Film anyone for a few hours and you can cut them down to 5 minutes of sound bytes.

He's a manipulative troll.

I don't think this is necessarily true, he has a way of getting people to actually talk with his weirdness, people who wouldn't usually open up - he's done some truly great pieces, his one on prisons was brilliant, as are his earlier ones in Israel and South Africa, and his one in the Nevada brothel.

That said - I don't think this latest one was even close to "his best"... I think it was limited and his interviews aren't what they used to be. You're right - he often seems to already have an agenda and simply be prying to confirm / justify it. Which isn't what he used to do. He used to ask "deliberately naive" questions like a child would, to get people to open up and explain things in their own words, which offered an uncommonly objective insight into the thought processes of normally closed-off people.

I hope it was just this topic that had him "stuck", it didn't really go anywhere at all, other than to say "this **** is bananas. Oh well."

Although I suspect part of the problem is that he's quite blatantly not a "dog person"...

Sample size 1 is no sample. LA is big, most people travel around in cars so its not surprising you have not seen dogs and you probably have but never noticed them.

Perhaps your Stetson was over your eyes at the time?

I think we're just starting to see this trend emerge here, the 'status dog' a friend of mine works with rescue dogs and says 80% are staffs.
Maybe he's highlighting how not addressing the problem in one city has manifested into a huge issue for the whole city?

Its a trend that has been here for a while, the vast majority of dogs at say battersea are staffy variants.

watch it again now that i've said it's faked, and then each scene think to yourself, how did they have the cameras ready? how did louis seem to react so immediately? How does it all seem to fit so perfectly into this 1 hour narrative...

you'll notice it, and reach the same conclusion.

I was going to give the recent one a miss since I'm not a big dog lover, but ten/fifteen minutes in I felt that I couldn't miss something with Louis Theroux in it.

I can't believe you think it's a set up, what would be the purpose of that... highlighting a problem that doesn't exist? it makes no sense.
