From MarketingWeek, includes mentions of BB:
Abraham also appeared to dismiss the idea of his business buying Channel 5, saying Channel 4 is more focused on creating “distinctiveness in the marketplace”, “demographic delivery”, “targeting and innovation” and “quality of audience” rather than looking to chase the audience and advertising sales volume that the consolidation of the two broadcasters would provide.
Speaking to Marketing Week after the event, Channel 4 sales director Jonathan Allan said “[Channel 5] is not worth £700m”.
He explained that with the contract for the Big Brother franchise up at the end of this year and the once popular CSI drama series “running out of steam”, audience levels are likely to soon dip meaning any potential new owner would need to invest heavily in order to make it profitable. Allan declined to comment on whether Channel 4 would look to reclaim Big Brother when the contract expires.
Allan added: “To turn it round into something profitable we would want to make it different and, for us, Channel 5 at the moment is a small ITV…[When Channel 5 was initially reportedly valued at £100m] we were looking to make it more of a [distinctive] household and kids channel to make it more competitive…but to make it profitable you would need to invest a lot of money…I’m not sure [at that value], as a publicly owned company that has a remit to invest only in the things that are going to be most profitable in the future, we could raise the funds to do that.”

They'd be stupid to take it back. It was already a sinking ship on their channel.
Now, it's a sunken wreckage wearing away more and more.

Regardless of what you think of the current state of the show, with a few niggles I love it, BB14 was one of my favourite ever series, CBB9 is my favourite celebrity series yet, that's clearly not true, it's ratings this year were up on the last two years, CBB13 did over 200k better than BB11 did, and was only 300k behind CBB7, which had a 6 million launch.

I doubt C4 would but it back. Let's face it, the later series on c4 had lost their spark.

I enjoyed BB14 I admit, but regardless of the viewing figures, the show is a pile of poo.
So unless channel 4 were planning on taking it back and trying hard to restore its former glory I very much doubt they would want it now. I thought BB10 was tacky at the time but the recent output makes that look positively classy, and they had Lisa in that one.

Refusing to comment on taking it back and mentioning that they won't buy channel 5 because the contract for BB expires soon suggests to me that c4 are considering taking it back. Otherwise they would just spouted out the old 'new direction route' statement.
Could be possible that channel 4 won't buy c5 because they are planning a bid for BB and they know views will drop if BB isn't on c4 anymore.
This better not be an April fools joke -_-
I don't care I like it on C5
BB14 & CBB13 >>>>> CBB7 & BB11
But i'm not saying I wouldn't like it back on C4 most things would be the same Emma will still host the tacky edit will be cut down a bit but not that much, the tacky edit doesn't bother me anymore it's calmed down

Doesn't really surprise me, but it would if they swiped it from C5.

In some sense yes it has, but now it's just rough.
It's a bit like a nice looking prostitute in a posh hotel versus a scab covered scruffy one on a backstreet.
Both are the same but one's more appealing.

If channel 4 buyed back bb there launch would have to be really twisted and shocking like put a few housemates in and let them think they have a chance of winning the prize fund but are not eligable for it, things like that put a pregnant housemate in that could give birth at any moment, they need to break some boundrys, be edgey like channel 4 has allways been, it would need a fresh dierection with somone whos not afriad of getting there hands dirty with controvsion.

Well the fact that they've declined to comment instead of saying 'we've moved on from BB' suggest that they're interest in getting it back.
I don't understand why everyone is like "oh it's fine on Channel 5 now" uhm no, Channel 4 will always be superior.

I'm not saying I wouldn't want it on C4, it's just I don't mind it on C5 the one thing that makes me dislike C5 is they over use Celebrity Big brother

I honestly don't think it would be that much different at all on C4. if you look at the later C4 series' it was heading towards the tacky OTT type already

I agree. I don't mind it on Channel 5, they've done a good job of it compared to how awful their first year was, but Channel 4 will always be the better channel for BB purely because they've had lots better series, housemates etc. Some of the things they always did well was new house layout every series, diverse choices of housemates etc. whereas now it's just Under-30s with the odd 35+ thrown in and a similar house design each time.
I'd be much happier if it went to C4 but that's not to say I don't enjoy watching it on C5. In fact I love it but I just wish they would do some of the things channel 4 used to do.

So is Big Brother definitely not being renewed on Channel 5? Not sure if I've missed something.
If C5 do not renew it that will be a very stupid, especially given how popular BB14 and the latest CBB series were...
C4 probably won't comment on buying Big Brother again because it is probably always on their minds. Doesn't mean they would take it back, they just keep it as a "never say never" kinda thing.

It'll definitely be renewed, probably this week.
Channel 4 have too high an opinion of themselves, seem to think they are a far classier and higher quality channel than C5 are

Actually, the series aren't that different when you strip them all back. Channel 4's houses were different designs, but their layout never really changed if you look at the later series. They were just good at adding extra walls to make it seem new and keeping rooms in the same place, just decorated different. A good example of this is the Diary Room. It didn't move at all from Big Brother 9.
Channel 5's choices of Housemates are younger yes - but Channel 4 never really had that many older Housemates in their later series either. We need to remember that Channel 5 followed what Channel 4 started in Big Brother 10/11, but have now made it their own. Really, Channel 5's most recent series are actually better than the late Channel 4 series.
Channel 4 have too high an opinion of themselves, seem to think they are a far classier and higher quality channel than C5 are
They are.....
They are.....
If they are the difference is negligible, Channel 4 are in no way a high class channel yet they try and make out they are by banging on about "distinctiveness in the marketplace” and “quality of audience”. Channel 5 on the other hand rightly revels in its trashiness and had been gaining ground on C4 because of it, C5 has been on the up the last couple of years while C4's been on the decline so C4 really have nothing to brag about or any right to lord it over C5

I don't think channel 4 needs to be high class to be "classier" than channel 5.
Amy Childs is classier than channel 5.

And so they should, Sex Box was the classiest programme of 2013.
Even if Channel 4 did take back Big Brother, I can't see it being a long term fix solution to the programme. The Launch and first few highlight shows would get huge ratings, and then it would just fade into obscurity again. Even C4 figured out that Live Feed was getting to be a thing of the past, and the only reason we got it in full form for BB11 was because it was the final series. Bring Davina back, give us a good house etc - it'll please the fans BB has already got, but it won't make a difference to the overall quality of the show. C5 have taken the show in a new direction and it's actually great to see the show slowly start to build again on a new, quieter channel. Besides, whilst Jay Hunt is in charge, BB will be nowhere near Channel 4.

Moving to Channel 4 wouldnt make bb better, there is no way it can go back to bb6 times which is what some people seem to think, however i do think c4 casted better people and they were more creative but then again they had bb when it was fresh so idk wghat they could really do to spruce it up if they got it now.

Really hope C5 keep it, it won't work back C4, at all, it liked if The Simpons went back to BBC 2, It would not work.
But I loved last BB, one of the best, CBB 2014 was really good, I Know a lot people, who seen not see big brother for a least 3/4 years, they actually got back into the show.
They said they hated, that they got back into big brother again! . they looking forward to normal big brother now.
I can''t see this year BB being good as last year!
