View Full Version : Jessie J: "My bisexuality was just a phase"
Me. I Am Salman
08-04-2014, 01:22 PM
We're used to hearing *celebrities come out as gay – but brave Jessie J has taken the unusual step of declaring herself straight.
The star, who had previously said she was bisexual, spoke candidly to 3am about her changing sexuality.
“For me, it was a phase,” she says. “But I’m not saying bisexuality is a phase for everybody.
“I feel that if I continue my career not speaking on it, I almost feel more of a liar than if I didn’t. I just want to be honest, and it’s really not a big deal. Who cares?”
The 26-year-old singer , who is headlining the UK Live festival this summer, told one fan on Twitter: “I fancy/date/love men and only men.”
Brilliantly, she also joked online that “vegetarians eat meat *sometimes”. When asked about the comment yesterday, she said: “I thought that was quite funny.”
We thought so too. But it hasn’t been easy for her to speak out, having basically been labelled “gay” since coming out as bisexual back in 2011.
One downmarket newspaper even put the enlightened headline: “Jessie Gay” on its front page.
She says of her past revelations: “I did talk about it, and I was open about it, and I do support being lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender - love who you want.
“That’s what I’m doing.
“I don’t regret anything I ever said, but I never knew back then that whatever I said became a fact that I couldn’t change. I’m just so bored of it, and that’s kind of it – I want to stop talking about it completely now and find myself a husband.
She adds: “It’s a true struggle. All the chick flicks that didn’t make sense to me, I now understand – Sex and the City is real!”
Now, she does not wish to label her sexuality , adding: “I’m not anything.
“I’m aware of who I want to be and I want to marry a man. That’s it.”
But in a strong hint that she already has a boyfriend, the Do It Like a Dude singer posted a photo on Instagram last week with the intriguing caption: “Something tells me I’m going to love him forever.”
She has also posted: “I miss you.”
In another online post, she writes: “I have changed and grown up A LOT, and that’s allowed.
“And I feel more comfortable in my own skin now than ever before.
“I refuse to feel boxed and judged because of how I felt once! A long ass time ago. People change.”
If she’s happy, we’re happy.

some people are not born gay. they experiement. some people are born gay but experiement the other way. some people are born gay but end up hetrosexual. either way the gay mantra that 100% of all gays areborn gay and stay gay, is complete and utter nonsense.
Think she was going for the "yeah I'm totally bisexual, buy my music" angle but it backfired when it seemed quite believable that she wasn't heterosexual which obviously stung. I thought she was a lesbian pretending to be bisexual, turns out it was the other way... or so she says.

oh jesus where do you begin
1) What's being gay got to with this? She claimed to be bisexual, not gay. There's a difference
2) Experimenting does not change your sexuality. It actually has nothing to do with it. It is just that...experimenting. That's what this was, it's just that like hundreds of other people she wrongly thought it meant she was bi when she wasn't
3) Your sexuality does not change. Period. And neither is it a choice, before you inevitably take us down that road

everyone is an individual they do not all conform to your radical liberal straight jacket of made up rules
That last sentence is a complete contradiction. You can't be a 'radical liberal' and have a 'straight jacket of made up rules'. Liberalism (in its social form) is about being open minded, tolerant, believing that the paradigms of the world are liable to change, freedom etc etc the list goes on. There is no solid set of rules within liberal thinking. Make up your mind
Sexuality is a spectrum and various people fall on different places along the line. It is not a black and white issue (i.e. you're either straight/gay/bi), on that I will agree, there are numerous differences and sliding scales involved that revolve around physical, social and sexual attraction that make sexuality such a complex enigma that differs from person to person. But that does not mean it is a choice or something that's interchangeable.
If you are attracted to men and marry a woman, that doesn't make you straight as you've tried to argue on here before. That means you've been brought up in an environment where you fear coming out. If you're a heterosexual woman and decide to have sex with a woman just 'to try it' because you live by the mantra of 'don't knock it until you've tried it', that means you're experimenting. This doesn't change your sexuality...in some cases those people experimenting may realise they actually quite enjoy it and that perhaps they were bisexual all along, but that doesn't mean they've just changed their sexuality, as if it's a tangible thing. That just means they hadn't discovered themselves before.
But for most experimentation is literally just that. If some straight man wasn't attracted to fat women but decided to sleep with one just to see what it's like, that's called experimentation. It's trying something you wouldn't normally do just to see what it's like. That doesn't change your sexuality, nor does it make it a choice.

She would look like a complete tit though if that's true, first saying she's Bi, then saying I don't like girls anymore I want to marry a man and then if it turns out she's actually a Lesbian? and it would come out eventually unless she stays celibate forever

I don't think the guy who played Sheldon ever denied it though.
He was pictured out in public with his partner so didn't try to hide it. It just didn't become something to confirm until his fame shot up.
She can come out again later, people say stupid things they don't mean all the time and then go back on their word later, that's life. I still think she's not a heterosexual woman and she's changed what she's saying for the sake of her career which is on a bit of a slide at the moment. She'll regret doing that in the future I think, regardless of what her actual sexualilty is, she's lied at some point now either way and it's just making her look silly and pathetic.

Liberalism (in its social form) is about being open minded, tolerant, believing that the paradigms of the world are liable to change, freedom etc etc the list goes on. There is no solid set of rules within liberal thinking. Make up your mind  - YES THATS WHY YOUR POSITION MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. YOU ONLY WELCOME DIFFERENT PEOPLE IF THEY AGREE WITH ALL THAT YOU SAY.
FIRSTLY YOU ARE NOT AN EXPERT SO DONT BOTHER PRETENDING TO BE ONE. TRYING TO TALK AS THOUGH ITS ALL FACT , ITS NOT. MUCH IS SUBJECTIVE. ALSO YOU INADVERTANTLY AGREE THAT NOT ALL GAY PEOPLE ARE BORN GAY JUST AS HETRO PEOPLE ARENT ALWAYS BORN HETRO. AND YES PEOPLE CAN CHANGE THEIR SEXUALITY TOO. THERE ARE 6 BILLION PEOPLE AND THEY DONT ALL CONFORM TO YOUR NARROW MINDED SET OF RULES
That just means they hadn't discovered themselves before.
NO ONE SAID IT MADE YOU STRAIGHT. MAYBE HAVING SEX WITH A MAN DOESNT MAKE YOU GAY. WHO ARE YOU TO PIGEON HOLE ALL PEOPLE WITH YOUR LITTLE RULE BOOK. MAYBE THEY HAVE DISCOVERED THEMSELVES BEFORE AND ARE NOW RE-EXPERIMENTING. PEOPLE CAN CHANGE TO BECOME GAT OR HETROSEXUAL IN SOME CASES OR BI SEXUAL OR ASEXUAL. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO STOP THEM DOING SO
But for most experimentation is literally just that. If some straight man wasn't attracted to fat women but decided to sleep with one just to see what it's like, that's called experimentation. It's trying something you wouldn't normally do just to see what it's like. That doesn't change your sexuality, nor does it make it a choice.
YOU MAY CALL THAT EXPERIMENTATION , OTHERS MAY NOT.
IT MAY BE A CHOICE IN SOME CASES BUT NOT IN OTHERS. YOURE TRING TO CONTROL THE WHOLE WORLD OF SEXUALITY WITH YOUR OWN SMALL RULE BOOK BUT YOU CANNOT. YOURE NOT BIG BROTHER SO I SUGGEST YOU BECOME MORE OPEN MINDED AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO DEVELOP AND CHANGE AND LIVE AS THEY LIKE WITHOUT YOU LABELLING AND PIGEON HOLING BILLIONS OF PEOPLE

Jack_
08-04-2014, 04:04 PM
You know something called breaking a quote down does actually exist, that's just made it impossible for me to respond now
I lean more towards nurture in the nature vs nurture argument on sexuality yes, but regardless of whether your sexuality is determined at birth or not it is still not a choice and you arguing it is is actually quite offensive. I'd argue that in a lot of places throughout the world gay people would choose to be straight if they could since that way they wouldn't have to face a life full of rejection, isolation and self-hate. Why would you choose to be gay in an environment where you felt like you'd be looked down upon for it or worse still, killed for it? The answer is - you wouldn't.
I'm doing anything but 'pigeon holing' people, I'm actually doing the opposite by arguing that sexuality is a spectrum and varies from person to person and is not a black and white you're either this or that issue. That's more than most people believe. All I'm saying is that your sexuality is not a choice, is not something that can be changed and experimentation has no bearing whatsoever on your sexual orientation either, because it's just experimentation.

She looks very much like a bull lesbian, ie the one that is and looks like the man in a relationship
but if its a person who comes out as gay you believe them and exhault them as heroes? nice try , utter transparent hypocrisy
Did you mean to quote my post? I didn't mention anything about exalting someone to the status of hero... I think she decided to go halfway house and say she was bisexual when promoting her first album as a sales ploy in a throwaway comment but as people just sort of accepted it and assumed she was a lesbian and because her career's hit a bit of a slump she's decided to publicly retract her admission that she's bisexual so's not to alienate people who assume she's a lesbian. This leads to a number of potential scenarios:
1) She isn't lying, she thought she was bisexual but it was a phase, i.e. was never really bisexual; in the same way that you might wear flared jeans or have a nose piercing or dye your hair green and then get bored of that phase. It's not who you really are. She's actually a heterosexual woman; so her claim of being bisexual is a bit tacky and demeaning to bisexuals.
2) She is lying, she is a bisexual woman, in which case she's going back into the closet for some undisclosed reason, potentially because her career is in trouble, in which case she's making herself look stupid in the process when down the line she'll admit that she actually is bisexual and she claimed otherwise for whatever reason.
3) She is lying, she is actually a homosexual woman, in which case she's going back into the closet for some undisclosed reason, potentially because her career is in trouble, in which case she's making herself look stupid in the process when down the line she'll admit that she's actually homosexual and she claimed otherwise for whatever reason.
Regardless of which one it is, she's lied about her sexuality at some point down the line and has made herself look a bit pathetic, in my opinion.
