The Borgias deserved another season to tie everything up, but my favourite character was already dead and I didn't like any of the remaining main cast, so I wasn't too bothered when it got cancelled. The Unit could have went on longer aswell but after reading what their plans were for Season 5 I'm relieved it got cancelled, they would have ruined the show.

The Event could have improved aswell, the second half of the first season was really good but it had already lost nearly all its viewers by that stage.. I think they are the only shows I've watched that haven't ended on their own accord

Biggest one for me though was Rome

It basically set the path for Game of Thrones. The mistakes HBO made with Rome and the lessons they learned in terms of budget (it was cancelled because they blew through the money too fast) is one of the main reasons HBO does so well with GOT

I feel the same Roy about Boss/House of Cards... I think Boss had stronger side-characters and plots but obviously being on a crappy network didn't help.

..I think the thing is back in the day, you always thought series could have gone on a bit longer but that's probably because there wasn't so many/as much choice..they probably actually ended just at the right time...

Not watched it yet but apparently there was a big hoo-ha about firefly getting canned. I saw the film they made to finish the whole thing off and I really liked it so I'll give it a shot.

Angel, wasn't necessarily "before its time" but it needed one more season to wrap up.

The 4400, again needed one more season.

Dollhouse - started out formulaic and boring but was brilliant in its short second season, which ditched the "story of the week" and got into the meat of the overall story arch. Unfortunately, far too late to regain the viewers that were lost.

Firefly is a definite. It was easily the highest quality "spaceship sci fi" ever made (with the possible exception of Battlestar, but completely different styles) and it was neglected during its short run (messed up running order, unreliable weeks) and so never managed to gain momentum. The fact that there was a big enough outcry to justify a movie shows that they really messed up with that one.

Oh and I also agree about "Rome", I'd have watched more of it, however, I think they actually did "finish" it well... Its a succinct self contained story in the 2 seasons it got, it doesn't feel unfinished, I don't actually know where they could have gone beyond that. Everyone's story was told. Not many happy endings but, that's realistic given what the show was about!

Is it worth a purchase Toy Soldier?

I liked Serenity so I would think it's kind of the same as that right?

Serenity is basically an extended final episode of the show, with a higher budget. The show was cancelled without even getting a full season (cant remember how many eps it got, think it was in the mid teens... Was supposed to be 22) so they managed to get funding for the movie to wrap it up.

Definitely worth a watch, then rewatch Serenity at the end to get the ending!

the problem with Twin Peaks was that the case was solved too quick. Even Lynch admitted they should have never solved Laura's murder so soon since viewers lost interest after that
