View Full Version : Should there be gay clubs?

I mean, I, personally, do not agree with them at all. I go once in a blue moon because i HATE the vibe. It always feels like everyone has to shag everyone or someone has to pull just because your in a gay club - it does NOTHING for gay stereotypes.
Also, most importantly, Gay people are putting themselves into a separate category and stereotyping themselves for going to these clubs because their 'gay clubs', arguing that they should be allowed to fit in and should be able to walk the streets without abuse, yet they are segregating themselves into one lousy place.
If there were such a thing called 'straight clubs' they would be a big uproar.
I just genuinley dont understand it, its a huge contradiction and should be gone.
There is no need to have straight clubs really though is there, basically every club in the world is a straight club

if it's not for you it's not for you. don't see why you want to make sweeping generalizations about them though.
I'm not into straight strip clubs, but i don't give a **** if other people enjoy them.
go where you wanna go. period.

I get where you are coming from with the segregation thing tbh
However in my entirely selfish opinion...yes there should be gay clubs, as its a better night out in them and you tend to get no trouble

they exist as a place for gay people to feel accepted and meet other gay people -- it's your choice if you want to hook up with someone but i think it's a good thing, plus straight people are allowed in

but gay clubs don't only allow in gay guys, it's not like you've got to suck a dick to get in
It's just an easy way to meet other gay people, in a "normal" nightclub if you can't tell you might get punched

yeah but going back to what i said..
'allowed in' yes i know their allowed in but why should a sexuality even come into it? A club is a club and should remain a club. That's like putting a sign onto a coffee shop saying ' gays welcome' were all human, so why does it have to be straight this and gay that i just dont get it!
I understand the comfort and accepted etc but if gay people want to be equal then why all this seperate stuff thats aimed just at gay people?

Having said that, me and gav were turned away from a gay bar years back for being straight..so it does happen. Just not often as we have had no problem since then.
However it has to be said, that this particular club had a 'blacks only' room too upstairs (you did not have to be gay to go in the black room) where our gay mates who we had been out with were turned away from on the same night, so they werent the most tolerant of people to begin with. This has all been done away with now though, which I am glad about.
It was a strange night.

There does seem to be a disproportional amount of 'stereotypical' gays/lesbians frequenting gay bars. Its probably because its harder for them to 'fit in' elsewhere I guess. Most gay guys I know prefer 'straight' bars but this might be because they dont screech loudly, jump up and down and clap like a seal whenever a lady gaga song comes on. I suspect if someone went on like that in a 'straight' bar, rightly or wrongly they would get odd looks which would make them feel uncomfortable...

And i do personally believe all these ladyboys that you talk about believe they HAVE to act like that because its what society has told them that thats how gay people act.

Until people stop assuming that everyone is straight and therefore you can go into any club and try hitting on anyone without risking being beaten up, there's every reason for gay bars and clubs to exist. It's just an easier way for people to meet one another

The gay village in Manchester is a great night out - little trouble....but its not uncommon for the bouncers on a busy night to turn people away stating "gays only" which just would not be tolerated elsewhere with clubs saying "straights only". That's my only gripe.
All clubs discriminate quite arbitrarily mind, like a lot of places won't let you in just if you're a group of all males if it ruins their ratios

I'm not gay but i used to go to a gay club/bar all the time. great places. i used to go with family and friends and my girlfriends at the time.
plenty of straight people and so easy to pull girls funny enough in a gay bar. less competetion if your straight i guess lol.
but what i liked about it was it was friendly. never any trouble. you go to any normal bar or club your always on your guard. but you can relax in a gay bar. and just enjoy yourself.
of course they should have them. everynight there's hot girls snogging eachother they cant do that in a normal bar. they would get hassle and get chucked out.

I get where you're coming from but I think it's just a bit of a niche in the same way that there are rock bars where moshers would go or cocktail bars where pretty girls in short dresses would go... it's just a place that you can go if that's where you feel most comfortable. I think it's good that they exist. I think it would be better if there was more variety, so it's not just "this is the gay bar where all gay people go" but I think that sort of exists anyway, I know quite a few art school-esque gay guys who, funnily enough, go to art school sorts of venues and they manage to meet people there, that's where they feel most comfortable. I think it's important to have a space where you feel safe and you feel in your element in, in terms of night life.
