Two Months ago I gave up alcohol. I had my last drink on 22nd February.

'Gave it up' for Lent to see if I could. I had a bottle of wine unopened in the fridge. It's still there. I thought I'd struggle to last a week, tbqh, but (due to life stuff I've had going on) I've also recently taken up meditation and listening to relaxation music - I've not started braiding my hair and listening to Bob Dylan lol I've no desire to become a hippychick, but it's really been good for me. I had one evening of craving a drink, about 12 days in, and fully intended to crack open the bottle but went out for a walk, and talked myself out of it. :D since then I've not been tempted, feel better physically for it as well.

I won't tempt fate by saying I'll never drink again, but that is my current mindset and in the words of the engine who could (it's a book) ..... I think I can (do it)

:grin2:

Thanks everyone :)

And I'm hoping so Vanessa but I'm not declaring I've given up for good, as who knows what will happen in life, but yes I do want to be able to stick to it and not drink again.

maybe i am missing the boat here but did you have an issue with drinking too much and too frequently?

It could have gone that way, I was getting so I felt I needed a drink rather than just wanted one. My decision was for a few reasons though, the feeling like I needed it to wind down, the fact I was always ill the next day cos I have gallstones so alcohol gave me terrible heartburn, and the calorie count lol !! I really do feel physically better for it.

Now I just have to sort out everything else in my life and set the world to rights, that will take a while.

Stop torturing yourself and get that bottle of wine cracked open and get it down your neck.

That's the thing though, it's not torture. If it was I'd have caved well before now.

The pub quiz starts on Thursday, that's plenty to keep you occupied.

That's great Kate, I've know a lot of people who didn't take notice of the signs when things were going a bit too far. I really respect you for knowing you're better than that!

do you go to aa?, my friend has been tee total for nine years, after admitting she had a problem.

they do a buddy system, so when you are struggling there is someone who knows what you are suffering and can help.

Never warmed to AA. The whole praying thing and they can be quite judgemental if you relapse. Especially people with long term sobriety; there's also the hierarchy thing with the key rings you get. The people were nice and everything but standing up and blabbing on for a bit whilst everyone is quiet doesn't work for me. I go to groups where they rip you apart if they feel you need it.
