It's my fave Spice Girls song too #GerisImpact
Nah it's R&B done badly, one of their weakest singles and definitely not one you'd think of if you had to name 5 tracks by them - which says a lot seeing as they didn't really have many singles at all.

I think the Spice Girls are overrated to ****. Yes they pioneered a wave of girl bands and had some great tunes, there's no taking that away from them, but in my opinion there have been better acts who have come after them but it's apparently a crime against all things British to say anything other than the sun shines out their arses. Mel C's a great singer, Emma Bunton can hold a tune, the other three are ****e attention seekers.

For their time though they were amazing.
For their time though they were amazing.
Of course, but in reality they had a very short career which imploded because the band was full of egos with no talent, for anyone who didn't grow up during Spice Girl mania they must wonder what all the fuss was about. Their music is so quintessentially of its time that I just can't take them all that seriously.

They put out 12 singles and 3 albums over 4 years, it's not like they were around for a particularly long time. The bloody Saturdays have lasted longer than them and had more hits! And we all know they couldn't hold a tune to save their lives. There's no denying how huge they were and how much of a cultural impact they had but I feel like people overhype their music.

Girls Aloud and the Sugababes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the Spice Girls
Just in every way. Talent, quality of hits, number of hits... sure they didn't have the 'girl power' craze or layer upon layer of advertising (giving them Spice names was a stroke of genius, if you can call the reduction of 5 people to a quirk that) but honestly, looking back on the Spice Girls I just feel embarrassment and shame (the movie didn't help).
but no I can name ten better SG songs than Holler (Say You'll be There is my personal favourite).

Spice Up Your Life is an undeniable force of pop music, Wannabe is an enigmatic debut and Stop is a classic - but Overload and Sound of the Underground are cooler debuts than Wannabe; Sexy! No No No, Something Kinda Ooooh, Freak Like Me, Hole In The Head etc are just as in your face as Spice Up Your Life and so on and so forth. They were good for their time and they were top of the pile of most memorable pop acts but all of that has to do with their personalities and very little to do with their music. The music was secondary to everything else in Spice World.

You can't compare Spice Girls and Girls Aloud music in my opinion, that's two completely different eras of music. Obviously Girls Aloud music sounds better in comparison because of modern technological advances in music production and additional years of inspiration and references. But Girls Aloud probably would never have existed if it weren't for the Spice Girls. The Spice Girls, at the time, were so fresh and like no other girl group that ever existed. And also, don't get me wrong I love Girls Aloud, but they do not have the same star quality and enigmatic personalities the Spice Girls had. Spice Girls knew they were not the most vocally talented but they made up for it in all other areas.
Xenomania is one of the main reasons Girls Aloud was great.

I refuse to even accept PCD as a legitimate girl group. It's Nicole Scherzinger and her troupe of dancers with 1 or 2 who occassionally provide background vocals.

All valid points which I accept but musically, Girls Aloud (and Sugababes) are far superior to Spice Girls, which is where it counts when discussing music, of course. The Spice Girls were about many things and the music they released was secondary to their personalities, the wave of feminism and the other media forays they made. Do you think Geri Halliwell got four #1 singles because she's a fantastic popstar or because she was the first Spice Girl to jump ship because she knew she had to take advantage of how fast paced their careers had been and she wanted to be "the first" at the next step in their career? I'd say the latter. She can't hold a tune to save her life, she knows that better than anyone, she just rode their wave of popularity to the best of her abilities, as they all ended up doing. They're celebrities who happen to be popstars, not the other way round. In that sense, Girls Aloud and Spice Girls are comparable, except not every member of Girls Aloud is determined to be famous (Nadine and Nicola) like the Spice Girls are.
