View Full Version : Recieved a call today...

Some of you may remember last year where I was whittled down to the last of the housemates and I pulled out at the last minute. I Recieved a call yesterday asking if I would be interested to do it this year. Not really news but perhaps gives us an insight into how far along the process they are.

I said I'd think about it and call them Monday. I've just started a new job in jan and orderd a brand new car earlier this month so there's no way I could do it this year. Gotta pay the car deposit!

Edit: the title says today, I ment to say yesterday. I'm on my
Phone and Cba to edit it

Whatever happens you'd be guaranteed to make a few ££ from it, they aren't gonna sit around and keep calling you every year.

Kate!

:amazed: Tibb would have backed you all the way.

True, but I just started a new job, something where I will be progressing. This time last year I was just a Tesco worker. I have a career now, and big brother would just get in the way now.

Need to do a bit of compromising and ask for a few weeks off, they'll accept when they know what you'd be doing, Even mentioning it on the show would be a bit of publicity for wherever you're working.

Would of blatantly won in that case, don't we account for 95% of big brother viewers these days? Haha

A bit short notice to ask for max three months off... Plus I'm still on a probationary period

I was literally just a more confident version of myself. Slagging of the usual towie bimbos and people who have agents. I said I genuinely don't want fame. I literally want the experience, the 100k prize (anyone who says the don't want that is a liar and is usually a telltale sign that they're in it for all the wrong reasons)

It went well and they said I was a genuinely refreshing person to interview. They said they I was someone who they would of expected to interview bb3 and before and I was a rare find for these days.

Huh, I see my own views reflected in those. Makes me think I should actually audition :P

I find getting feedback like this is great from auditions, I've done a few recently and although nothing has come from them, all the producers were very nice and I feel a lot more confident for it :)

It's funny, Big Brother is a gamble in that it could make you infinitely more employable or infinitely unemployable, depending on your ambitions. That's probably why the casting is so skewed these days.

There's a whole long thread explaining my reasons I'll find the link to it later. Basically I went into hiding and had meltdown I think about 24 hours in without having a phone and being cut off. If I had that reaction being completely cut off for hiding. How would I cope on the house??

Well if you couldn't even handle the being in hiding just move on.

Nothing worse than a housemate who doesn't want to be there.

Sawyer
27-04-2014, 09:24 PM
Why did you even audition? :/

You don't know how you're going to react until you're actually in the situation. When I applied it was just a mere possibility. Each stage you think naah, I won't get any further. And as you do, you just get sucked in and mesmerised by the whole thing. Once reality hits you and you're there and your realise what you've done, then and only then you realise what it's going to actually be like

I have been there, I got down to the last lot for Teen BB and had call backs for other civilian series.

I understand how you get sucked in and how good it makes you feel when you keep advancing but I was very aware way before the final stages that I didn't want to do it after being in the same room as the incredibley desperate potentials I just knew it wasn't for me and haven't and will never audition again.

I knew I couldn't handle living with those people as I was getting angry just by being in their presence.

Did you honestly not have any doubts until you went into hiding?

Then again maybe im bitter I never got picked but to be honest im glad it never happened and my view of BB isn't tarnished, im a superfan and nothing else.

Anyone would think everyone emerges from BB with terrific career prospects, only a very few have done well out of it and the experience has ruined some so you are right to be cautious Sawyer. You must be interesting though if they called you back after you walked out!

At least you had the courage to audition. I always really want to apply but then back out as I'm worried what my family would think ect. They are very anti bb, whereas I have always watched it, secretly, as my dad wouldn't let it be on in the house. Obviously now I have my own place I can watch it easily but you can imagine if my dad was so against it even being on the telly how he would react if I went in so it always stops me from applying :(

I've just had this exact same call, hence why i've googled it and ended up here. 'Hi, just letting you know you're still in the mix, are you still interested?' Said very much so and then 'ok cool bye'. Bastards.

Housemate choices always go right down to the wire. I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few start dropping out right towards the end so they need a few backups to step in.

Their new career may be that, too. If they put it on hold just to do Big Brother, who says their job will still be waiting for them when they get out?

and when your older (60+) you will see it as one of the best decisions you've ever made

Or one of the worst. A fair few housemates have said just that.

I'm not trying to dissuade you OP, just adding another side to the discussion. You say that you have a brand new career right now, sounds like you have something pretty good going for you. Why risk that (and possible future prospects) for BB?

I'm not saying doing BB automatically hampers job opportunities (Rachel Rice seemed to have no problem with her teaching afterwards), I'm just referring to the fact that you say you're starting out a new career right now, it's certainly a risk to put that on the back-burner for BB right now.

At the end of the day, it's up to you, but I think anyone who's applied for BB needs to seriously consider both sides of the coin first. Going into it expecting nothing but an amazing experience, both during and after, isn't necessarily the best thing to do.

Marsh.
08-05-2014, 06:14 PM
Yeah, it's a tough decision.

But if, like Rachel Rice, you retain your dignity, you'll have a better chance post show.
