View Full Version : Man Utd fans: How do you solve a problem like Rooney?

Man Utd's next manager has got to work out what to do with Mr Rooney prior to next season.

Sell? More sitting on bench? Re invention?

Fergie would have probably sold him had he not retired, instead eager to please, desperate and under pressure Moyes handed Rooney the notorious £300k a week mega contract, yet he's no longer regarded as many as being up there with the world class players, Yaya Toure has scored more and he's a midfielder albeit a very attacking one.

How do you think Rooney will fit in under De Gaal? De Gaal sounds like a fresh broom type of manager, cleaning out the cobwebs, bringing in new fresh talent. Remember how Fergie ruthlessly and relatively got rid of star player Norman Whiteside*.Rooney is not the fresh faced teen who burst out at Everton, has he peaked? Ronaldo has gone on to improve, has Rooney got lazy, content with mediocrity as he's getting paid rain or shine, questionable fitness etc.

Has Rooney lost the "Stretford Enders"

* still youngest player to be in World Cup, sorry but that's my only bit of footy trivia so I try and crow bar it in!!!

****ing sell him like we should of done when he wanted out. We could of sold him and signed Ozil and then a proper midfielder or 2. That summer was a ****ing mess.

Moyes transfer calamity was partly down to SAF's late retirement announcement. Moyes was caught out and was thinking like an Everton manager.

Who's going to buy him though on the wages he's on?

Play him as a proper striker and watch him flourish, as he has done in the past.

RVP>>Rooney as a striker and Mata>Kagawa>Rooney as a Number 10. Why the hell we decided to treat him like king I will never know. Only formation that may work is a 4-3-1-2 with Jones and 2 signings in CM, Mata Number 10 and Rooney and RVP...but Van Gaal isn't playing without some form of wide forwards. Sell him to PSG or some **** seeing as they may well sell Cavani.

RVP vs Rooney as a main striker is a debateable one, imo.

It's doubtful that Rooney will ever get back to 2009-10 when he was on a different planet to everybody else in the league. Only injury prevented him from winning us the league and possibly even the Champions League.

Scored a hat full in 2011-12 also.

RVP has only had the one stunning season. Was excellent last season but his long barren run taints him in that campaign.

Edit: The only way to accommodate the pair would be in a 4-4-2 diamond. Unless Van Gaal can do the unthinkable and make the pair work together.

Keep playing him every week to waste a place in the team apart form 10 games a season when he shows up.

Whiskey nose ruined him as a player by using him to do what was best for him (which I don't blame him for). YT Rooneys' goals at Everton, and watch how powerful and direct he used to be, now look at the pale imitation top earner in the league.
