anyway I just went on that wiki page and then went to read the LOUD wiki and

Loud is a departure from the personal, melodramatic themes of Rated R.[20] Stylistically, it is a return to the Caribbean-inspired dance-pop of Rihanna's earlier work.[21] In an interview with MTV, Rihanna said "I wanted songs that were all Rihanna songs, that nobody else could do. I didn't want the generic pop record that Ke$ha or Lady Gaga or Katy Perry could just do and it'll work. I wanted a song, or songs, that were Rihanna songs, that only I could do, had that little West Indian vibe to it, had that certain tone, a certain sass and a certain energy."[22] During the promotion of Loud, Rihanna said that much of the music was born out of frustration. She explained: "When you go to a club and have to listen to bad music you revert to the liquor, because you want to have a good time. I hate having to skip a track. I wanted to make an album you can just play."[23]

ain't that the truth

Only Girl was definitely fresh sounding at the time of its release so idg your point

dancepop doesn't immediately mean generic. and OG and S&M were the only dancepop songs on the album

come back to me when Cher releases a song like Man Down or Cheers

please tell me how releasing a song like SOS in the pre-EDM climate of 2006 wasn't an artistic risk

Probably because dance music had already been popular since the 80's...

um no not in the US.. the 2000s were the Urban era for the charts, 80% of #1s were hip-hop/R&B songs. just look at 2004.. EVERY number one song was by a black artist

it all started to change in 2008, then more so in 2009 and by 2011 EDM was literally everywhere.

tbh it could genuinely be argued that rihanna helped to popularise dance music in America and opened the doors for the likes of Ke$ha and Gaga

Madonna did Hung Up before SOS I guess we'll credit her for inventing dance pop

that didn't go to #1 in America. we belong together/gold digger/run it!, all hip hop or R&B songs, were number one instead during it's release.

It went #1 WW & sold 9 million, have you changed the argument to Rihanna only influencing the US music scene now?

woah is there a need to be so aggressive  if you could read I clearly said she HELPED popularise dance music, I didn't say solely.

Jordan.
05-05-2014, 08:06 PM
You said she took an artistic risk by releasing it when it clearly wasn't if Hung Up and other dance songs were doing well, are we done now? :douf:

It was only ONE song, she did take a risk
how many other black R&B/hip-hop/dancehall artists released an EDM song at the time?

Jordan.
05-05-2014, 08:18 PM
Idfk but they all flopped after so you should blame Rihanna for the genres downfall
