This is a great video, I tend to agree with it, it's the main reason I've decided not to get a smart phone

Hmmm... write a long, slightly strained poem about stepping away from technology or you'll have no life... then post it on YouTube.

I hate condescending crap like this, some guy learns how to write poetry and suddenly he becomes an expert because he can make words sound nice and meaningful when he puts them together.

Couldn't agree more Chewy. Except the bit about him learning to write poetry. I think he just used an online rhyming dictionary.

awww I liked it and I can see his points as well. My daughter for instance is 14, when i was her age i was out with my friends all the time, what they do now is all stay home and message eachother on their phones or snap chat, instagram whatever

I get what you mean Niamh, my sons are the same they very rarely go out with their mates, as they interact online or on playstation or Skype, on the upside I always know where they are!

Yeah true but I never thought I'd have to try and force my kids to go out with their friends :joker: My son is 10 and he had 2 friends over yesterday and they were upstairs playing his xbox, we live by a beach and there they are upstairs in a dark room, so I threw them out and they ended up having the best time building a fort on the beach, I couldn't get them to come in in the end

I mean I have enough distractions in my life as it is Arista, I don't want my phone telling me everytime I get an email or a notification on FB and I don't want to turn into someone who's head is stuck in their phone 24/7

When we go out as a family or on holiday I make my lad leave all his gadgets, I'm seriously considering knobbling his xbox.. taking the fuse out of the plug so the thinks it's broken for a while... is that mean?
He won't even open his curtains lately :(

If people only communicate online with friends then they obviously have the wrong type of friends. I'll online usually talk to them online when we're planning to meet up and it's usually a brief time and place type messages.

I guess a lot of the subtext is flirtation and attracting mates really

Part of that video
was used as the 1st story
on the Adult Comedy Hour Red Eye Fox News
(for UK online only) on at 3AM USA and 8AM UK online
a Texas lady said it would not sound good if she said
the words.
Another said he did not need a Brit telling him how to live
but a nice looking lady on the panel
said its got some good points

Personally I think the poem is awful and basic. But I admire his point and agree, so many people disengage from people face to face but yet have more to say to them over an email/FB.? Go figure.
My absolute pet peeve is when I am out for dinner with friends and they sit there playing/texting on their phones. I find it so ****ing rude and make a point of asking them to not to do it. One friend carried on once so I just walked out of the restaurant and went and met other friends.

He's probably right. Compared to when we were all younger (myself included, god I am old, lol) there was not as much technology around. Most kids/teenagers didn't have mobile phones, computers, internet, etc.
The more people use these things the more it absorbs their actual real social time, which is a shame.
