I know a few of you already know of my recent had news, but I wanted to make it common knowledge as I'm going to probably be on here looking for a chat and a bit if banter late at night and I'd rather do so if everybody knew my situation..

Almost 2 weeks ago, my son was diagnosed with Leukemia and has already started a lengthy course if chemotherapy. He's in hospital for the next 6 months and Dave and I have not been home yet since the diagnosis and have basically relocated to Edinburgh for the time being.

The first few days were by far the worst of my life, but I'm feeling much more positive now :)

Just wanted y'all to know so I could chat here easily :)

Thank you Tom.. I'm remaining hopeful. My son has the more uncommon childhood leukemia but apparently it's still very treatable.. And the upside is is that it's just 6 moths of intensive chemo whereas the more common type is a 3 year programme.

So sorry for you and your Son and the rest of your family. I don't really know much about Leukaemia or anybody with it so I'm not an ideal person to offer specific advice however if banter and that is what will help you get through the more difficult periods feel free to abuse the crap out of me. I come on most evenings.

I hope your Son makes a speedy recovery.

Every little kid I've ever heard of who's had leukaemia seems to have made a full recovery, must be something to do with growing and probably being in the best health possible under the circumstances - compared to say a fully grown adult whose immune system's probably started to deteriorate anyway. He'll get through this and he'll have some ace stories to tell when he's all better, and you'll think "what a trooper" :) thinking of you today Lee xxx

Lee, I've just found out about this thread.

I don't really know you very well.. you're a name I see popping up all over the place though.. But I didn't know you had a family..

However, it doesn't matter how well we know each other.. I'm a mum too.. and I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through right now. The only words of comfort I can offer you right now is that my wee cousin had leukaemia.. (I'm not sure which type as I was only a teenager at the time).. and he was about 4 or 5.. I think.. anyway, he's now about 30.. and has been in full remission for a lot of years.. so yeah.. people do come back from this..

I hope he responds well to the treatment... it's obviously going to be tough on him physically and tough on all of you emotionally.. I'm going to PM you my email address... if you want to talk.. I know you have plenty of people, but one more won't hurt..

Love to you and your family. xo

Evening all.. I've had quite a few messages asking how things are going so just thought I'd give y'all an update...

I think I already said somewhere that Samuel went into remission after his first block of chemo.. This was apparently classed as "morphological remission" which meant that under the microscope, his bone marrow was clear.. However, after the second block, they did further, more sensitive tests, and without getting too technical, they can still detect a very small amount of leukemia cells lurking about somewhere. He has just finished his 3rd block of chemo which was very intensive to target these cells that are still in his body.

We're hoping and praying that the tests at the end if this will show more positive results otherwise we might be going down the bone marrow transplant avenue.. My daughter has been tested to see if she's a match but we're still waiting for the results of that.

Again, without getting too far into it, the type of gene mutation he has to have caused the leukaemia apparently responds well to the type of chemo he's just had, so please everybody keep your fingers crossed for some positive news in the next few weeks! :)

We're still managing to stay positive and keeping each other strong, but I have to admit we're both scared ****less at times.

Samuel himself is just being a wee trooper.. He never complains, and has become a minecraft genius!

Thanks to everybody who has asked about him
