View Full Version : Hastings for Lee - Donate Now
Recently a good friend of ours and her partner received terrible news that their son Samuel had been diagnosed with Leukemia. It is news that nobody should receive and the two of us wish the family all the best in their fight against it.
We have both decided to do what we can to raise funds for the family whether that be to help pay costs for the treatment or for Lee to donate the funds to a charity of her choice. We will be engaging in a bike ride from Chester to Hastings which will cover roughly 350 miles across a period of 6-8 days. We will be setting out on this journey on Saturday morning (17/5/14).
we will try and keep you all up to date with our location throughout the Marathon Journey and if all goes to plan we should arrive at the Crawford household no more then 9 days after setting off.
Please support our cause and donate as you please! - David & Andy

Pack a light waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers incase it hammers it down, plus make sure you are wearing helmets and have high vis gear. I don;t want you two getting hurt on a journey like this.

I can't begin to tell y'all how touched I am by all this
I've had not a winks sleep, but today has been a good day; Samuel has actually sat up today and has been chatting and laughing, he was given a brand new iPad of his own from a local charity and is currently telling me all about this new angry birds app he's downloaded.
He's still in pain and is feeling crappy but compared to the past few days, today has been wonderful. He also just realised that it was his own hair that was falling out and has been chuckling at the fact that he's going to be bald..
On top of all this, the fact that Andy and David would do this for us, and y'all would donate has really made my day.
A huge huge thank you from Dave, Samuel, Lara and me xxx
Might wanna up the target lads if you can. Smashed it in a day.

...yeah, I know with my friend, losing her hair was probably the thing that she was upset most by/crazy isn't it so she had it cropped when she started to lose it but it does come out fast and I think once it's all gone, it feels better somehow but it is a reminder I know Lee.... but it's also a reminder that some of his treatment is behind him and over for all of you and it's one step closer to his recovery and a healthy little guy again...

Also thank you so much to everybody who donated! I can't actually believe it!
We're all willing to fund Andy and David going and doing something monumentally stupid/amazing/poorly planned/kind if it helps you out at all xx

Help me..... Hi, I still can't donate, I fill in the amount and details, and the comment box, then press continue and all it does is refresh the page and all the boxes are blank again. I've been trying all day :fist:
Anyone else struggled?

lots of love for all involved.
Thank you so so much everybody, especially Andy and David for even thinking of doing this!
We've had to cancel our holiday we had booked for next month, so this money will go towards an even better holiday once this is all over!

Did you manage to get much back?
Not yet, the holiday company refunded us £300 or thereabouts, but we do have travel insurance so we will eventually be fully reimbursed, we just have to get reports from the docs etc :)
We hadn't paid the full balance thankfully.
..I know this didn't go exactly to plan but that's the least important thing of it...you two really are great guys .....
..Lee, I hope this is added to with lots of fund raising stuff by lots of people and when Samuel is well enough, you all have the family holiday of your dreams......

He's doing really good at the moment.. He's putting on weight, doing really well with his physio, he has no infection and his blood counts have started to move in the right direction :amazed:
Dave and I have been receiving training on how to administer his feed and medicine through his tube as there has been talk of being allowed home for a few days if his white blood count reaches a certain level.. His next course of chemo starts in a week or so, so he'll be back to being fairly poorly again.
Hopefully he'll sail through it

ah that's great news Lee, kids are so resilient, would be good for you all to get home for a bit too and for Lara, has she been able to come see him yet?

No :( He's still in isolation so Dave and I are the only ones allowed in.
She's coming over tomorrow though and I'm going to spend the day with her

Hi lee excellent news that her is responding so brilliantly to treatment!
You all deserve the best holiday ever once this nightmare is over, hope we manage to send you off somewhere amazing to make all this go away  xxx
I have only seen this now and have just donated so hopefully I'm not too late.
Not sure what to say, Lee. I'm crap with stuff like that. Sending wicked mental energy love your way, I guess.
I'm stunned by the idea, David and Andy. Respect. It's so incredible when you see real heart bubble from the primordial soup of a dirty ol' Reality TV message board. Well done.
Just thought I'd update you all on Samuel's progress.. We waited patiently last week for his blood counts to reach an acceptable level and eventually they got there and we were sent home on Wednesday until yesterday.. We had a great time seeing family and enjoying little things like home cooked meals and our own shower!
We're now back in hospital for another 5/6 weeks and he started his 2nd cycle if chemo last night... He's currently really well and we came back to the news that he is now in remission! Now we just have to hope that the next 3 cycles of chemo keep him in remission :)

Brilliant news Lee.. So pleased for all of you.. :)
Thanks everybody.. On the downside, the chemo has already started to affect him and he's been a grumpy wee ****e all day  However it's good to know that it's the strong chemo that's making him poorly now, not the leukaemia :)

..yeah, there is a child that I know who would call them their 'grumpy days' and those off days after the chemo must be quite miserable for them ..but it's a grumpiness you van put up with because for great reasons, Lee..he's grumpy because the chemo is working to make him well...
