'Half a million people in Britain are living with coeliac disease without knowing it, according to new research.
The disease, a digestive condition which leads to an adverse reaction to gluten in foods such as bread and pasta, can lead to a range of other medical problems if it is not diagnosed.
Research by the University of Nottingham has found that only 24 per cent of people with the autoimmune condition are diagnosed.'
Are you coeliac? My sis is, it's a lot more serious than people realise.

I'm not really sure Kizzy, but have found that since I gave up eating bread, pasta etc,I have lost weight without trying also I had a bit of Psoriasis , that has also gone,so I do know I am intolerant to such food,so avoid like the plague.

I have intermittent joint pain (shoulders, knees, elbows) that improves dramatically if I cut out wheat, though I have no digestive issues associated with it. I find it really hard to give it up for more than a few weeks at a time, though :joker:.
500,000 of us are secret coeliacs: Only 24% of people who have condition are diagnosed
Umm how do they know how many secretly have it if those people themselves haven't been diagnosed with it

If it leads to adverse reactions why do half a million people not know they have it :suspect:

What am I NHS direct? :) there's a vid in the article, it can be misdiagnosed as IBS or sufferers may just feel lethargic.

Looking up symptoms on the internet is the worst thing you can do.

Yep.
Look up something to help a ragged nail and end up being told you are going to die within 6 hours.

Yeah I used to go on that NHS site where you had to click on the body to where you were in pain and what type of pain etc. It would always end with "CALL AMBULANCE IMMEDIATELY"
I always lived to tell the tale :pipe:

Um yeah... well if anyone does have any genuine concerns a simple blood test could determine whether you could have this auto immune deficiency.
