An armed robber has absconded from an open prison in Doncaster along with another inmate.

I wish people would stop worrying about stories like these. All criminals in Prisons eventually get to the end of their sentence and are eligible for release. Prior to that they are moved to open prisons where they can get a feel for life on the outside with trips home etc..

The fact that they escape from these Prisons just highlights how incredibly stupid some of them really are as they are only months away from being released anyway.

If they were all told that absconding from an open Prison carries with it a mandatory 5 year jail sentence it would stop overnight.

Maybe that's the solution to this, just bring in much harsher penalties for prisoners who abscond from these minimum security jails.

I really like your thinking Nedusa.

I am all for moving people to open prisons if it is deemed that they are low risk now and moving to the end of their sentences.

However for escaping in such a scenario,I would actually add more than 5 years for the breaking that opportunity and trust.
