I have to admit this was a big gaffe, I did find it highly amusing too however.

Better research as to where he is and who are the main people at the forefront of his Party in the area he is in at the time is needed for the future.
It should be the norm but my advice to all parties would be watch out,interviewers now want to get so far off topic they will try any trick to throw them off course.

It was like in the 2010 general election, you had David Cameron praising Gary Barlow as he was supporting the Conservatives but couldn't even say what group he was from.
Politicians need to be on their toes now,possibly more than ever,they cannot all get the likely pre set questioning as to interviews that for some reason Ian Duncan Smith always seems to possibly get so he can have his answers ready.

This was funny and a big gaffe though from Ed Miliband.
Having said that, when politicians do this sort of thing, I think it helps in some way to endear them more to more ordinary voters who then see them as human after all.

In his defence as far as he can be defended,I couldn't get why the Labour opposition Councillors name even came up.
Had Jim Grant,whoever he was, been actually running the council then that would have made a little bit more sense.

Just as I wouldn't get why say David Cameron or any party leader, would be asked about a Councillor not responsible for actually running a council.
What do you think of Jim Grant, what sort of question is that anyway.

Surely interviewers have far more srious questions that, when they get a leading politician on their programme, they should and could be asking.
If it was some form of petty entrapment then that is something I am totally against for any politician of any party.

Yes I also thought the line of questioning was a bit odd, it's as if the interviewer had a "heads up" that mr miliband would not know the name of the head of the Labour party in the Swindon Council.

He seemed to "ambush" Mr Miliband and take him down a certain path with more questions about this labour Councillor instead of asking him about local issues.

Equally so with leaders,if being perfect and 100% correct in everything you say and do is evidence of competence then we have never had such a leader,likely ever.

I never consider any vote I make a wasted one arista,I vote for who I believe to be the most near to how I feel and see society now and where I would hope for it to go.

I learned after voting for the Lib Dems last time that my trust was well and truly betrayed by them so they are gone for me.
I have seen nothing at all,on the issues I really care about, that tells me David Cameron leading the Conservatives have moved an inch nearer the point where I feel I could vote for them.
For me a wasted vote would be me voting for the Conservatives because that is my background as to life and politics.

However,I prefer to consider the whole of society in the big picture and not just a snapshot,there I see regularly the suffering this Govt. has caused and I want to vote to have that halted.
The only party advocating a more compassionate approach to the serious issues I care about is the Labour party and that is why they get my vote.
Not in any way a wasted vote at all, just a more hopeful one than the one I made in 2010..
