They meant it the other way, though it was clearly just an attempt to shoehorn in a reference to the eye.

I think it's a reverse of the usual meaning of the term. Instead of saying it to encourage team-work, it's being used to encourage playing for yourself. They're basically saying there's no room for teamwork when you're playing for yourself. :)

Anyway, I like the ad! I really like how they're focusing on the show as a game and a competition, and love the dystopian vibe going on, very fitting considering Big Brother's origins. And very Hunger Games-esque at the end, with the public contestant selection. Yeah, good stuff! :)

I mean, if I was being picky I'd prefer it more serious, instead of the military uniforms and Rylan's stinger at the end, but it wasn't hugely jarring or anything. By C5's standards, it was definitely reigned in.

I agree. I don't want horrible, unsupportable people, but I definitely want people who realize it's a competitive environment and are fine with playing the game. You can approach things in that manner without being a terrible person with few morals, so I hope they don't go OTT in the casting.

Yeah, I agreed that they share themes, but I think the adverts themselves are very different. I definitely appreciate where the comparison comes from, but BB13's was more light and bubbly, with the clips of contestants being "trained" with shock suits, fake tanning, the upbeat music, etc. Even the stadium was different, this one is set in a Dystopian environment, rather than a generic sports stadium like place. This has funny elements and is definitely meant to be a but of fun, but is more pulled back I feel. This one is also more explicitly geared towards a strategy-based series. I do think they intended BB13 to be like that in the early weeks, but the advert just reflected a competition without the game-play thing specified.

But yeah, it is definitely like another take on the theme of choosing contestants for a competition. I much prefer this one, to be honest. :)

Oh, something I forgot to add in my earlier comment. I'm so glad that Marcus didn't do the "contestant selected, contestant selected" thing. And I liked his voice-over, too. See, I don't dislike Marcus, I just don't like the times they decide to make him completely OTT.

Definitely! It just doesn't sound right, having Marcus do the eviction announcement thing. I know I say it all the time, but it's one of C5's changes that I really dislike. I loved how it was done on C4, a BB voice repeating "____, you have been evicted, please leave the Big Brother House" a few times, calm and emotionless. Just that one change has drained so much atmosphere from the evictions.

And even though I admit I'm perfectly fine with Marcus when he's toned down, I still wouldn't want him doing the announcement in a more reigned-back manner. It should be Big Brother telling the housemate to leave the Big Brother house, not the show's narrator.

The "contestant selected" thing really reminded me of the old BB evictions. :)

I like the idea of schemers and players - but if they're doing it right, there's no way they can tell. How many times have housemates spraffed on about being "a player" or "i'll play the game to win" and have just turned out to be slightly dull and boring. But I'm sure they'll put in enough twists and turns to MAKE people turn on each other.

As for the advert.. the simplicity of the eye graphic and theme tune trailers of the past really were ahead of their time.

Someone mentioned someone having a HOH type room this year. I bet when you are in that room you're allowed to talk about nominations. So anyone that wins the room has the power to bring someone else in and talk about putting someone up. But people outside the room won't be allowed to talk noms.

They won't all be nasty housemates. BB has demographics to fill to keep people interesting in watching. If they are all nasty some viewers won't want to watch. I imagine the nastiness will come from a change within the house (ie they'll have the chance to talk somewhere about noms, and someone will have the power to affect the noms each week)
