There has been a lot of news recently about people wanting phones to go back to basics and people are buying phones which were made in the naughties for surprising prices.

Do you have a modern phone or are calls and a game of snake all you want?

no, not got one and don't want one, some times keeping it simple is best.
some people just want a phone for calls and texts. hence no need for a smart phone.

Nokia Lumia 625. Not the best not the worst and does the job fine. The novelty of apps and games wore off after about 4 months.

That's quite a lot of assumptions to make based on something as simple as the phone one has. Is there a reason you're so angry about it? :conf:

I have one, but not because "I need the latest gadgets", because I intend to keep it for a good long while if it remains in useable condition, I love it, it's perfect for me and I don't see the need to replace it. Even though a newer model has recently been released. Sure, it's fairly recent as far as phones go, but it's not "the latest gadget".

I'm also not materialistic. I have the phone I have because it's fun. I don't walk down the street waving it around like it's a trophy.

And yeah, my life is not empty. Even if it was, I'm pretty sure a bloody mobile phone wouldn't change that.

I think it's ironic you gloat about how you're not materialistic, don't feel the need to impress people, etc, yet refer to people on benefits with a derogatory term like "doleys" (despite knowing nothing about individual circumstances), etc. That's pretty damn shallow, itself. You might not need the latest phone to feel good about yourself, you need to put others down instead. :)

PS: I agree that some people are materialistic and shallow in regards to phones, having the latest things, etc, but you're generalizing every single person with a Smartphone as being part of that group, which is way off.

You are basically insulting this entire thread of members and yes it is assumptions, you have no idea of anyone elses individual circumstances, maybe those people on benefits that you keep referring to as 'doleys' have contract phones and keep money away each week to pay for them.

You tell someone else if they don't know you not to call you angry yet you happily refer to all benefit claimants as 'doleys' without knowing anything about them.

That right there is complete hypocrisy.

How ridiculous :conf: ,I do know a child cannot afford a contract iphone unless they have a damn good paper round ,and what other name is there for people who claim dole ?

You can get contracts for less than £20 a month. Paper rounds are what? £10+ a week?

Yes, I can believe a teenager can afford their own mobile phone. I paid for my own at that age too.

But of course you have to jump to the cynical conclusions for everything.

How do you know they don't have a paper round? you don't. And do you think parents don't buy their children anything these days? there is still such things as Birthday and Christmas presents Chuff which would be what I think is the most likely scenario of them having a contract phone.

There is also the benefit of having insurance with a contract phone if they get lost or stolen or even just need upgraded then the phone company deals with it all.

And 'Doley' is a derogatory term for benefit claimants.

A layabout, paid by the government to do nothing but drink beer and shout at more affluent people.

As a parent, when my child gets to an age where he is out on his own, there is no way he won't have a contract phone. I will want to be able to get him anytime and he to be able to call me....without me worrying if he's run out of credit.

You're insulting a heap of people you don't know. The difference is, I didn't actually insult you, I just made an observation.

Everything I want to say has been said either in my earlier post, or by others. At the end of the day, for some reason you see fit to insult people for the simple reasons of having a new phone and/or being on benefits. I acknowledge that there are people who are shallow, there are people who exploit the benefits system, but you seem to think everybody who falls under a certain banner is the same. I don't see us finding common ground here.

Also, and I hate to break it to you, but you don't have the authority to tell me what to do. Want me to ignore you? Feel free to take your own advice and not respond to this. While you continue to make unfair generalizations and assumptions (not facts), I'll continue to engage in the debate. My dear.

Anyway, I think the OP's thread has gone off track enough. Everything else I had to say has been said either in my first post to you, or by others. If you hate the entire principle of buying a new phone so much, nobody forces you to come and converse with the pieces of scum who do so.
