Big Brother 2014: Bosses want show to continue for 50 years

The maker behind Big Brother 2013 has no plans for the show to come go off air any time soon.

The reality series has been on UK telly for over a decade non stop now, with its fourteenth civilian series launching this month.

Over the past 14 years, the show has had two different houses, aired on three different channels, been hosted by three different presenters and seen a total of 30 series, including a teen, Hijack and Panto spin-off.

While ratings are far from their peak, the show continues to pull in the viewers with last winter’s Celebrity series the best to have aired on Channel 5, and there’s no plans to end it any time soon.

Endemol chief Tim Hincks told the Guardian that he hoped the format would be around for some 40 more years.

He claimed: “If it launched today it would still be a success because it is a very modern format in the way it interacts with social media and technology.

“It has always been ahead of the curve. You can watch Brazilian Big Brother in 3D.”

He wants the format in general to continue, not necessarily BBUK, though of course wants it to continue, it's his company's format.

Imagine in 40 years time people will look back at BB1 as 54 years ago.

It could literally be taught in schools on how life was back in the year 2000.

Madness.

I would much rather a big brother in the summer & a big brother usa styled show in January for 2 months, rather than two 1 month CBB's

Coronation Street 50+ years so why not?

I'm sure at the time they wouldn't have expected to last that long at all. And anyway the two shows are completely different, soaps are a staple of British culture. Corrie gets about 10x the ratings BB does. gawd use your brain

Whats with the attitude?

In regards to you Corrie comment about them not expecting it to last that long yet it did, well are you not doing the same thing with BB? Not expecting it to last that long yet it may? lol

I wasn't even implying that in my original post. I was just laughing because it's a really large random figure to come out with

LOL true the stairs will be rocking back and forth as the housemates walk up them and Emma will be on her motor scooter dodging the pot holes on the RUNWAY!

imagine saying "Can't wait too see the BB55 house"

Or people on TiBB rating all 55 eyes, 55 houses, 55 Diary Room chairs or rating all 900 housemates in order of preference.
