In three nights, Big Brother 2014 has lost over half of its audience with now fewer than a million viewers tuning.
2.1 million viewers switched onto Channel 5 for the first launch show on Thursday night as the new series kicked off but that was down to 1.6 million for Friday evening’s second live show, which saw six more housemates and a big twist.
Last night saw the figures fall again as just 950,000 watched the first full highlights of the series.
It was despite the show being scheduled straight after the BGT final, which had a peak audience of more than 12 million viewers watching.
And even though the show had originally faced the football, the match was suspended due to a thunderstorm.
The show was down some 300,000 viewers on last year’s equivalent first Saturday nights highlights, all despite a series of twists as part of this year’s Power Trip theme.
The show continues nightly on Channel 5 and will air another special live show on Monday night from 10PM where another twist will be revealed.
A spokesman for Channel 5 said today: “We are pleased with the very strong performance of the show across the two launch nights.”

Unfortunately I think it's down to the lack of diversity in housemates, and the abundance of models and people who have had exposure to celebrity life-style.

Advertising space needs to be sold if Big Brother is to be profitable for Channel 5 and there needs to be justification from the producers to the advertisers that there is an audience that will watch.
If audiences continue to fall, Channel 5 surely will begin to worry. I fear that the housemates are too fame hungry and that there is not a good selection like there was last year.
For me, this could be the last series of Big Brother.

It definitely is. Most of the Big Brother fans are older women, they're not gonna be interested in this lot. They're awful.

I'm so annoyed at this series, the celebrity ones will hopefully save it for this year but if they don't drastically change the lineup for the next series, Big Brother will die.

Only way I can see it vastly improving would be by doing an at least a quadruple eviction and replacing the models with relatively normal people.
Even then though the 'towie-like to classic bb-like' character ratio would still be off, its a shame.

Sam no offence but every comment made about the ratings and the cast you have to come in and say they are the best yet or ratings are bad because of the weather or the football ect ect .
How are you going to keep this up if this continues over the next week?
I was going to say the next 2 nights will tell, that the first proper highlight shows show accurately how many people will stick with BB but tomorrow there's another twist, another 90 minute show on a Monday night.
Its strange they got everything like the house and graphics spot on but then filled it with a group of housemates who are the reason the public hate BB.
100% wannabes. Plus the fact they have already been on other reality shows is the icing on the cake.
Unfortunately people seem to be over looking it because Rylan has said "they have all been on the cusp of fame" making it sound like its part of the theme.
Its not, its a white wash.
Im not a negative person or a BB hater before anyone starts having a go im just saying it how it is. I love BB and I really want it to smash it in the ratings again but I wont make up lame excuses or be in denial over the reasons its flopping just because its not fan behaviour.

Im a total hypocrite because Im on starnow and have been on various stuff but i was a wannabe so i know a group of big style wannabes when i see them.
I and the rest of us expect wannabes on the show but the fact that its full of people who have been on other tv shows just puts a downer on BB.
Its like its no longer an achievement or a once in a lifetime opportunity to get on BB anymore when there are people in there who have been on 3 reality tv shows already.
I thought after last year BB would be going back to people who wanted the experience seeing as they know they wont get fame from it anymore but the producers have gone out of their way to recruit fame *****s.

For one ratings are always said to be dropping but for once I have to say it could be a two fold thing with quality and scheduling clashes, this year does not have the drama of last years first day aka beanie snatch or Micheal deliberating stirring trouble. Dropping below 1 million halfway through could be dismissed but this early on is quite telling.

MODELS have nothing to do with it, anyone remember little ole Sallie or Hazel from last year? Fame has nothing to do with it, loads of people from past series have been in the public eye slightly cusp of fame or whatever the different this year is the people are too 2 dimensional, we need characters like Charlie, Callum, Dexter, Makosi, Heaven. People who aint just 'im a bitch' 'im ruthless' too much bravado little substance. I really thought C5 had cracked the formula considering how well they casted the last two years (both of which have been compared to the best series on C4) I have no idea why they went a different route

I see your point but I think you missed what I was trying to get at. I think it's fine that there are a couple of models - the issue is when the majority are and then you're left with very little regardless of whether they're one dimensional or not. Charlie, Callum, Dexter, Makosi and Heaven all weren't models from what I remember?

I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. Big Brother has always had fame-wannabe housemates, even the first series.
Look at BB7 - for instance - the number of housemates that had sought fame in some way, it even was a running joke amongst the housemates that a lot of them used to hang out at Chinawhites club in London.
The housemates tend to look all the same on opening night - probably more so in recent series to be fair, but the differences soon emerge.

Fame hungry doesn't really bother me, it's when the house is crawling with them and they're so self aware (which is obviously a natural byproduct of the show running for so long) and the channel 5 style just makes it feel more fake to me.
Like when I watch clips of BBUS I feel like I'm watching a scripted show like The Hills or something, that's what BBUK is morphing into and I don't like it.

The last 2 bb's were the best ever in my view. including the celeb one which i usually dislike. it would be a big shame if it suddenly got canned after such a big high. last years was big news .
fame hungry doesn't matter. nothing matters really except the characters of the housemates and the twists.
i think people tunned in to see if they could relate to any of them and saw a load of business people with good looks and thought thats not me. and switched off.
bb's fault if this is the last . people want people they can releate too. hard to relate to millionaire bores managers. its not the apprentice.
thats why the winner is never those kind of people.

You mentioned them.
I'm saying repeats like F&S and movies are cheap alternatives on nights they know won't rate all that well.
The fact a 20+ year old film rated higher than BB shows what a dire state the show is in. This is the reason ITV have said they're unlikely to want BB for one of their channels because it doesn't rate high enough to justify the high costs of making it.

Got to say it has a very loyal audience. It's been repeated 3-4 times already this year I'm sure! But yes, it's good to see a 1.50m bounce. Just slightly about BB14 overnight average of 1.48m (however, BB14 added a lot on officials, hoping BB15 can do the same!).

It's poor, but not too bad. The share is good (well obviously as it was at 10pm), BB14 first Tues got 1.42m which was 100k ahead, but the first week av of BB14 was 1.32m so pretty similar to last nights rating, BUT with the hype, I expected more. I'm worrying for it from tomorrow onwards when the World Cup starts.
BB14s first week was all between 1.2-1.4m until the eviction so it wasn't fairing much better, but it climbed from then, something I have a feeling BB15 can't do because of the footie.
Also 1.3m overnights would mean 1.6m-1.7m officials which either match or beat BB12 and BB13, so it's not that bad.
