View Full Version : I miss the housemate diversity in BB14 so much

I think there may have been a thread similar to this earlier today, but I wanted to focus on the housemate diversity within BB14 and BB15. For some reason, I can't help but dislike every housemate this series. I feel as though they either have no redeeming qualities or no qualities at all. I can't help but think the cast of BB14 was so much better in terms of having very deep people who actually had interesting things to talk about. Here are some examples;

- Gina's mischievious, pretentious angel blend.
- Callum's struggles with being a lad and being allowed to express his emotions, as well as allowing himself to be soppy/cheesy.
- Sallie's bad girl and soft girl complex
- Wolfy's arrogance as well as endearing and caring attitude.
- Charlie's sweetness coated by ignorance and confusion
- Dexter's ever changing scheming attitudes
- Sam's bizzare humor and general odd but sweet attitude
- Hazel's manipulative but logical/rational thinking patterns
- Daley's introverted personality alongside the aggressive side we saw coming out

And so much more. Whereas this year the housemates seem to be incredibly one dimensional. Thoughts?

I think some HMs are showing redeeming qualities, for example Pauline saying about herself being bullied and her and Steven's relationship tonight was a nice contrast from the constant ranting.

I just think because the twist is so prominent, we haven't been able to watch into day to day convos to get some character development and see more into the HMs and their backgrounds, which is a bit of a shame.

This one has a lot of diversity, all of the hm's personalities are completely different.

I wouldn't say this year has shown much personality diversity at all.

Not yet anyway, half the house are relegated to extras due to the old woman and the prostitute.

For me the problem with BB14 was they seemed to be so one note

For example Gina was entertaining but there was just nothing about her, as shallow as a puddle

I think you bring up a really good point, and I think this may well be the reason why I haven't been able to get into this series at all. My favorite thing about Big Brother is seeing regular conversations to really engage in that character development aspect of the show. With all these twists and focussed conversations on who has power, we've had very little chance to get to know these housemates. It really is a shame.

I'm talking about diversity within each individual's personality, not the actual diversity of the cast.

... And whilst this wasn't what I was getting at, I totally agree. Most of the cast seems to be quite weak and sly. I mean launch Night 1 was so indicative of that, literally every housemate's vt was the same thing except for Pauline. I just feel like they're all so boring because there's no depth to them.

I agree, I miss Gina & Callum's friendship , I remember watching live feed & loving their friendship [As it was barely featured in the highlights] :(

Also Wolfy's arrogance & outbursts

They have no lesbians this year

Who's "deep" in BB15?

Helen's vagina doesn't count.

I loved loved loved Gina and Callum's friendship. There was just so much depth to it. Same with her friendship with Sam. Such an unlikely pair but it was so nice watching them on the feeds.

I suppose that's another thing really lacking this year - the feeds. I guess in hindsight they really helped make BB14 the amazing series that it was. I wish we could just have another summer of Gina, Callum, Wolfy, Sallie, Sam, Hazel and crew :(

I totally agree! One of the main reasons I wanted to keep her because she's literally the only one aside from maybe Pauline with whom we've seen a bit of depth to her character.

I think we have a mix of personalities this year..just some people are getting to hung up on the 'loads of models' thing

I thought the same on launch night, as usually the models all turn out to be airheads and such. But I don't think they are remotely similar besides in age and looks

I knew what you meant..who in there even has the same type of personality though?

I agree. The small amount of live feed made a huge difference to me.

See what your saying, last year was a great year and i think channel 5 brought some life back to the series.

I think we will see more diversity when the dictatorship ends and P is gone, give it a bit more time. I really think this will be a good year! Let's see how people behave and evolve when they are less intimidated.

Well as of now, I'd say most of them don't really have a personality and just stick to a pack mentality kind of thing. So the lack of personality in pretty much each and every one of them makes them seem like all one blend to me. With the exception of Pauline and Danielle, that is.

Yeah it really allows you to understand the housemates better because you get to see full conversations, as well as conversations about really bland trivial things, which in effect are actually the most interesting and the core of what Big Brother is.

We don't want too much diversity because the series that had diversity where boring and carp, series like BB11 & BB14 :bored:

Now let me correct the list

- Gina's The queen of the series, the only good person in the cast
- Callum's a complete cringe freak show
- Sallie's meh
- Wolfy's a big fat mess who though she was going to win and flopped
- Charlie's only got air time because of the **** showmance that made this series even worse
- Dexter's overrated
- Sam's who is he oh wait he is that bore from big brother
- Hazel's bitch
- Daley's aggressive thug

I don't dislike this series, but I agree with Raph, a lot of the people blend into one & barely have any character this series, I prefer BB13 & BB14

I suppose if you see things in such a black and white, one dimensional manner, this series would be particularly appealing to you.

There was just no character complexity in BB14.

BB15 has Danielle, Christopher, Jale, Kimberly, Toya who I find to be interesting and complex so more interesting to watch.

I don't even like this series that much, like it's nothing on BB13, it's just an inprovement on last year.

I much prefer this series so far to last series. I just couldn't stand Gina and still cant. The outfit she wore on BBBOTS was shocking and whorish. I didn't like many of the cast atall last year and I truly felt that Hazel was treated badly after the Daley incident even though she DID flirt with him and she wasn't a saint. I was delighted potty mouth Sally was sent packing early. I am tending to like a few more characters in this series than I did in the last one and even though Pauline and Helen are OBNOXIOUS they are certainly entertaining.

Stopped reading here since she was perhaps the one with the least personal diversity in the whole cast.
