There have been more than 1,500 complaints over bullying in Big Brother 2014.
TV watchdog Ofcom has confirmed it is now looking into the huge numbers of complaints, which are some of the biggest since the 2007 race row controversy.
It could see an investigation being launched into the show and broadcaster Channel 5.
Hundreds of fans have also signed petitions calling for Big Brother to step in against bullies Pauline Bennett and Helen Wood.
A spokesperson for Channel 5 wouldn’t comment on the complaints but did confirm last night that both Pauline and Helen had been warned about their behaviour in the house over this past week.
Last night we saw a very stern Big Brother caution Helen after hauling her into the Diary Room.

I wouldn't myself complain to ofcom as to BB,however I have found it is pointless to complain to BB direct as all you get is a set response, which in truth says little with no follow up.
Having said that, although I wouldn't complain to ofcom myself, I do completely echo what you say above.
Whether I liked a housemate or not, I would still expect some standard of behaviour and as to anyone sort of bullying or being bullied in any form, then I think BB should step in earlier and as you pointed out, not wait until ofcom has had complaints.
Ironically doing that would likely actually help BB carry on not ever put its future at risk, because BB themselves would be 'seen' to be handling such issues professionally and efficiently.

There's a reason BBUK is a shadow of its former self and is miles away from what it was in Big Brother 5, 6, and 7. Part of that was the Race Row, admittedly, but the incessant complaining that resulted ever since that have watered this show down to within an inch of its life.
It was at its worst in BB11 when any argument would be stopped almost immediately by production as everyone involved were called to the Diary Room and separated into different rooms, it has thankfully become a bit more lax in the years since its move to Channel 5 but if people are going to continue to complain it'll return to the censored, childish programme it became in 2010.
Did some people on here even see Big Brother in its prime? I don't know how they'd have coped.
Jack_
18-06-2014, 05:56 PM
And as a few others have said, if you want something done you complain to Endemol, Channel 5 and executive producers directly - not the regulatory body of TV itself. The former should and would probably address viewers concerns if there were enough complaints and would step into certain incidents where necessary, the latter would restrict what Channel 5 is actually allowed to show which has negative effects for the viewers because that means more cover-ups (Freezer-Gate is a good example) and a more censored programme. Way to shoot yourself in the foot.

Endemol aren't going to reply to everyone and as a matter of fact neither are OFCOM, I mentioned in my post that if enough people complained they would do something. The point I'm making is that everyone complaining to the regulatory body rather than the production company, broadcaster or even someone like Ben Frow, could very well have serious implications on what Channel 5 are allowed to show. It's not just a case of them stepping in to do something, I think people are forgetting OFCOM monitor and decide what can and can't be broadcast - not dictate what production decisions must be made - so all complaining to them will lead to is cover-ups of incidents like these as what happened with Jay and the freezer in BB12 and a lot less free reign for C5 to produce an uncensored, adult programme which Big Brother is.

Yes, so when people are slagging off the "Ofcom brigade" someone saw fit to share that they complained and why they did. That doesn't mean they can be insulted for it.

To be fair a lot of people on here shown their disgust at certain behaviour being allowed so it doesn't surprise me so many people have complained. Even I was near to complaining, it started to become uncomfortable viewing. Just because you're a fan doesn't mean you'll pass everything off. I bet tons of BB fans complained when you had the racism with Shilpa... Obviously that's one extreme and this series is quite the opposite. Although if you are that concerned about something then there's nothing wrong with complaining, doesn't make you less of a BB fan than anyone else.
Ofcom is the only body that will actually acknowledge complaints. If you sent a complaint to Endemol or Channel 5 all you would get is a standard "we value your comments and they have been noted" reply, or something along those lines. They would take more notice of it if loads of people complained although the matter of the fact is that Ofcom is the first open point of call for members of the public and fans of the show.
Big Brother receives complaints year on year. People are going way OTT with comments. the show will not be run into the ground because of 1000+ complaints on one incident on one series. At most a few people will switch off. Although viewing figures seem to indicate that no one is tuning off because of the bulling in the house.

I am glad so many complained. The bullying has been awful to watch & I don't know why so many think this is "entertainment"...
Big Brother used to be about a group of normal people locked in a house, now it has turned into a clone of one of those awful trashy scripted reality shows full of obnoxious, loud, crass assholes, almost caricatures of real people & viewers watch with baited breath, salivating at the thought of something kicking off...

Hayden my little :flower: this year has been really bad, gone beyond entertainment, its been uncomfortable viewing ,and IMO its been that bad ,that its the only time ever since bb started i have thought "Good on you all whos complained"
I agree with you that Helen and Pauline have been ostracising Jale, however Jale hasn't done herself any favours by playing the victim role either.
Hopefully this season will become more enjoyable, cos I agree with you that it hasn't been the best yet

There will always be complaints anyway. That will never change.
Absolutely right Vanessa, there would even be complaints from some if all the housemates and their antics were just like the teletubbies prgrammes.

Well it's just the same as you slagging the "sassy weave fans" off isn't it?
That's not really the point is it?
The "sassy weave" fans know who they are and most of them get my tongue in cheek humour.
When people refer to the 1,000 anonymous complainers as saddos with no lives or whatever the poster feels the need to jump in and justify it.
You asked why they'd share the information with the forum, that is why.

'Most of them' are starting to get annoyed with you contstantly just replying with the words "sassy weaves" at us all the time, but anyway this discussion can be taken to PM if necessary as it doesn't really concern the discussion here.
I have no problem with people sharing information about their complains on here, but they can't expect to not generate an outraged reaction on a Big Brother forum, where most users wouldn't dare dream of adding another nail into the coffin. I'm not saying they didn't over-exaggerate, but I'm saying their response was completely expected and I don't know what else you'd expect to achieve by posting on here that you've complained to Ofcom.

If people want to complain then that's up to them it's not something I would personally do but each to their own.
Jack to reply to you with your own words..why are you so concerned about what other people do? what business is it of yours and why do you think you have the right to tell them how to go about it if they choose to complain?
Because their complaining could very well have serious implications on a show I enjoy watching. It has a direct effect on me.
What someone else does with their body has no effect on anyone but the people involved

Nowhere do I ever reply with just those words.
Get over yourself.
