BB's Dickie calls in to meet fans

AFFECTIONATELY known as Dickie, the Canadian muscleman who found fame in the last series of Big Brother met fans close to his adopted home on Thursday.

Sporting his trademark diamond bracelet but abandoning his usual garb of a white vest and naval cap for a shirt and Castro hat, Richard Newman visited Carphone Warehouse in Creek Road, Greenwich.

As nearby Brockley has been his home for more than two years, he was thrilled to make Greenwich one of his first ports of call since leaving the reality TV house in August.

He said: "Greenwich is just beautiful - I love it."

The 34-year-old has had a busy diary of appearances up and down the country and on radio shows since being voted out of the house in fourth place by viewers.

He said: "Its go, go, go. I'm suffering from sleep deprivation but it's really good and I'm meeting lots of great people - and of course I need the work."

He added: "Being on Big Brother was on my list of 101 things to do before I die - now I can cross it off.

"I was well up for it and I just enjoyed the whole thing.

"There's some people in the group I will probably never see again but I will keep in touch with a lot of the others such as Pete, Nikki and Leah.

"I think the main thing I learnt was that I can be a lot more tolerant of other people - you can't just walk away in the house."

Richard studied broadcasting and worked in radio in Canada before travelling and taking up bar and restaurant work here.

Of the future he said: "I'd like to get back into radio or TV, but not necessarily in the forefront."
