View Full Version : Is the reason BB is losing viewers because it's on every night?

I have only just started watching BBUSA and I believe it's only on three days a week...
do you think that's why it rates so well in comparison to BBUK?
it's a lot of dedication to watch every night and maybe if we had BB on a few times a week for maybe an hour and a half it would do so much better and it would make the highlights so much more excitable.
the only problem is that would mean even less time to get to know the housemates...so they should just have BB on a few times a week and then have a few hours livefeed somewhere.
Idk

Uk bb has a bad rep and stigma attached to it, plus the housemates aren't what you would call joe public and most have already been on tv or modelled before bb.

This is a constant argument between fans. Many say 10pm is better because there is less competition, while some say 9pm is better for the amount of people still awake etc.

I would like to see a Big Brother series aimed at mature audience with 16 normal people as housemates. Go back its roots of sociological experiment rather than an entertainment show. Get rid of evictions, highlights shows, clips and gossip. Replace it with a non stop live feed and a 1 hour discussion show each night. When housemates are evicted they don't get to say good bye and the show is not about them, they just have a 15 minute interview midway through the discussion show

So people are just expected to sit around and watch live feed all day?
You think an online 24 hour live feed with no clips to show the viewers whats going on or articles/gossip would be a good idea?
People would have no idea who these people are or whats going on.
This is the worst idea in BB theory history. Hang your head in shame.

Its been on for years, (some) people outgrow these shows and move on with their lives. They are failing badly to capture the imaginations of the younger generation. Their ap only being available on one platform (that barely anybody uses) and their failure to integrate a purpose built website for the series which could include live streaming and **** loads of interactive stuff.

Just to confirm im its pretty much mostly aired at 10pm since its moce to Channel 5.
I remember one BB12 eviction started at 9pm and finished at 10pm then there was a new hour long show on in the middle. BB was then back on at 11:35 and finished at around 11:55. Seriously almost midnight lol.

The BB website should have the biggest forum of its own yet it doesn't even have one. They could have afternoon live feed for a few hours atleast where forum members can watch and chat and again in the evening like last year.
Thousands where online watching I cant understand why they pulled such a small amount of it, even the 20 minutes of live from the house has vanished.
Its probably the worst BB website out of the whole world, other countries seem to have their live feed, viewer interaction as a main staple of the programme.

More viewers awake to watch other things. Theres more competition.

Yea but with more viewers awake even with compeition theres a big chance it will add to the total of viewers that may have watched at 10 pm or to the hardcore viewers that are already dedicated.

I know right? It seems to me like they are too afraid to throw money at it and so just cover the bare basics.

It does involve a lot of dedication, although since on C5 the show has been edited with recaps at the start of every episode anyway so casual viewers and come in/out as they please and not get too lost with what's going on.
The launch shows are to blame the most this year. All of the housemates seemed pretty bland and all the same, no unique characters that stood out, a bit too 'samey'. That would have put off a lot of people straight away.
The constant twists I think are damaging the show too. The producers probably make these twists as a way to grab more viewers although I think it does the opposite and pushes people away from the show.
Tasks have been lacking and not that all engaging (the farm one was not too bad though). Plus no live feed at all doesn't help viewers get to know the housemates any more.
Figures going down are most likely down to multiple things. I guess all we can do is hope that C5 renew the show and there's some changes made for a future civilian series. Just stripping away the gimmicks and twists would be a good start, getting back to basics, and sorting out tasks and the way the show is edited.

Its allways done fine at 10pm the only reason im pissed off its not been at at 9 this year is when they could have moved it and not clashed with the world cup.
Some of those games BB had no chance against.

IMO, the BBUS has good ratings because all they're up against reruns in the summer, whereas the UK TV's regular shows like Casualty, Holby City, Corrie, etc., have new shows all through the year.

I find US ratings funny though. BBUSA gets 5mil+ views every episode which is good in American and British standards but America has a larger population so you wouldn't think it'd be all that good of ratings.
Daily shows are a bit tedious and the tasks too repetitive and samey on C5. They need a noms episode, task episode, and eviction and 24/7 live feed.

BBUSA rates better because they have a much larger population so ratings in general are higher.
The US TV schedule runs completely different too.
A lot of people have out-grown it, I agree. My mum, the young woman watching in 2004 is not the same woman she is now in 2014, not watching the show. Big Brother was big back then, but nobody cares about it nowadays.

It wouldn't surprise me if they reduce the number of episodes. Covering several days in one 60 minute episode gives them more opportunity to edit any sequence of events they like.
It's butchered enough as it is, it really would be completely manufactured with fewer episodes.

There is definitely a poor cast this year. If jale was to be evicted, and helen(think she is vile but she is the only thing to watch) was inevitably ejected then even I as a major fan would stop watching and just tune in every now and again. Honestly can't believe how boring it's got

1) you should be receiving an infraction shortly for insulting a forum member.
2) Big Brother has been getting low ratings for years...the World Cup isn't on every year if you didn't know xxxxxxxxxxxx

Like I said on another thread I've all but stopped watching. Tuning in for evictions and have an occasional episode on in the background if I'm off work in the afternoon, but otherwise I just can't get motivated to sit through it. And I've watched EVERY episode of EVERY series, since the launch night of the first show.
This is just a bad, bad, year. It's dire, practically unwatchable... Any long-time fan who doesn't instinctively realise that is surely deluding themselves. The cast is bad, the editing is bad, the tasks are bad, the twists are boring, and the power trip theme is an absolute shambles. There has been an extreme focus on drama from day one without any attempt to let us get to know or care about the housemates, and because we don't know or care about the housemates, the drama falls flat. Whoever is in charge of all of this is basically failing. Completely.
I'm hoping for a decent celebrity show... If it's a hack job like this I might seriously have to give up. BB has been a huge part of my summers since I was a young teenager and I'd be gutted to abandon it, but it's actually getting to the point where it's tainting good memories of past seasons...
Maybe I should just download old seasons and rewatch them daily over summer? :D

The loss of viewers is also down to BB's choice of housemates. Same old characters, the bossy black girl, the dumb blond, the essex boy, the old prostitute, the deaf guy, the wallflower girl, torrets guy, ****** guy,the virgin mary etc etc. This year with the exception of Chris we have the same old housemate stereotypes thrown upon us. Many on here have been asking why Chris is so popular and many of the answers say because he is the only normal one in there etc. BB needs to put more everyday normal people in without the bad attitude to life and especially leave out the superficial wanna beez who's world suddenly falls apart when the fake tan and hair dryers are removed.
