He's totally innocuous. If anything he's dull.

I was confused by this too :conf: he's done nothing to warrant boos at all (or any sort of reaction to be honest).

I would say it's just because he said he's going to win and people think he's arrogant? I don't know. Crowds suck.

It's just ridiculous!!!
He's done nothing to deserve that and out of all of the footage of the three newbs he's had the most interesting, observant and intelligent things to say!

Zoe's just bland and comes across as very condescending and Bianca was just far too much!

Isn't that a bit racist suggesting everyone who doesn't wear a turban would dislike him just because he wears one ? I actually take offence at that remark.

He hasn't really came across well at all..and anyone who isn't loved completely gets booed these days

The scum in the crowd are ignorant, rude and nasty enough as it is, I don't think adding Islamaphobia (even though he's not a Muslim, this is how silly their prejudice gets) into the mix is really that absurd a notion

Most of the BOTS crowd (and probably a large portion of the eviction crowd) wanted Biannca to stay because they buy into the whole "if you're getting your tits out, you're a character" thing, so I imagine a fair portion of the boos were just default "well I don't want Zoe out either" boos.

You do know Mo Farah is a devout Muslim and everyone in this country loves him and is well aware he is a Muslim.

We're talking about the crowd, not 'everyone', so no. Race doesn't even come into it, religion isn't a race. But please don't try and insinuate I am one because that's the last thing I am and that is offensive

And if you don't think there's a problem with Islamaphobia in the UK then well...

Have you really just compared an Olympic and World champion athlete to a contestant on a Channel 5 reality show?

I think if he was Latvian and he got booed it might be understandable, I think most people know the difference between a Sikh and a Muslim , main one being the turban.

I don't, in fact I know people don't because hundreds of thousands of people joined multiple Facebook groups a couple of years ago about turbans and posted negative comments about the Muslim community and I often stumble across people who on their raging criticism of Islam like to mention turbans

A lot of people don't know the difference and aren't interested in the difference either, it's a different culture...therefore they don't like it. Media depictions don't help matters either

If you were to ask most members of the crowd what religion Pav belongs to, I'd bet money the majority would say Islam

We don't live in a country where the vast majority of people are tolerant and open minded about other cultures. That is just a fairy tale people like to believe in to make themselves feel better.
But, Pav was not booed just because he is a Sikh, he was booed because crowd can either cheer or boo, 1 of 2, they cheer for Zoe, boo for Biannca and decide boo for Pav. He hasn't done anything of note to deserve cheers or boos, so

I don't believe Pav was booed because he's a Sikh. I think he was booed because he came over as a bit full of himself in his VT.

Why do people do such awful VTs? :( They rarely live up to their promises!

Rachel Rice was booed and she was white and she won.

Making out Hira was booed because she wasn't white is clutching at straws. Virtually every housemate is booed going in and coming out since about BB7.

Incorrect. Another poster (is it you? :suspect:) made these claims a few weeks ago and I rewatched those clips from launch night and Sylvia had a couple of faint boos whilst walking into the house (as 99% of housemates do, black or white) and there was no noise at all when she mentioned Sierra Leone.

Yeah, i thought the Boos were ridiculous as well. True, he hasn't done much..but, he's not had much chance. We've seen barely any footage of Zoe..less than Pav..i'd suggest (and she's done nothing special), but gets rapturous applause & cheers!!!

I'll address these points accordingly,

A white person receiving a mixed reaction does not automatically rectify a ton of other colored people being booed, I don't know what you're trying to prove. White people can get booed too? Nobody was disputing that.

"Virtually every housemate is booed going in and coming out since about BB7" is such a gross exaggeration I'm not going to address it.

The boos for Sylvia weren't faint but okay.

Just because he got booed, quite agree.

All too easy. Nearly everyone gets boos. On all polls Pav did not fair well so boos were expected at the crowd pantomime.

Yes, they were I watched her entrance on youtube. No booing whatsoever came from her Sierra Leone comment either. Complete bollocks.

It's not a gross exaggeration. Every housemate gets booed. I could count on one hand the people that don't.

White people getting booed does make a difference, as people seem to be using booing as an example of racism. Rachel Rice won, was booed. Brian Belo won the year before to cheers. Racism? Bollocks.

Macie Lightfoot
19-07-2014, 07:08 PM
I wasn't saying that the boos came immediately after her mentioning she's from Sierra Leone, or that Hira's came directly after she mentioned Pakistan. They were both booed going into the house, that's what the focus was on. What's complete bollocks is your gross exaggeration of how many people get booed but keep insisting on that if you wish.

The problem is that you're thinking of the voting public's racism in all or nothing terms. A white winner receiving a mixed reception doesn't cancel out the countless people of color who have been booed. Similarly, a black male being cheered doesn't mean that the voting public is never racist ever.

I never said they're never racist ever. If you actually follow the flow of discussion I was responding to a comment which consisted of "Hira was booed on her eviction in BB10" as an example of racism? :conf: How is that an example of racism.

I'm not thinking of it in all or nothing terms, I'm saying it as it is, most housemates come out to boos. Watch any eviction video from BB5 onwards on youtube and 9 times out of 10 the housemate comes out to boos.

I never said a white winner cancelled out racism, I pointed out a white woman who won the series got boos. So if the actual woman voted winner of the whole series gets boos, then they'll boo anyone.

Lisa was booed going into the house? Why is Hira and Sylvia's boos going in an example of racism? You quoted Sierra Leone and Pakistan comments followed by boos so if you weren't implying they were booed for those things then what exactly is your point?

Hira: I immigrated from Pakistan to England and feel so blessed to be able to life my life in this beautiful country ^_^
