let the games begin :dance::dance::dance::cheer2:
First medals of the games will be awarded in the Triathlon tomorrow and there is obviously no Gomez in the Mens so one of the Brownlee brothers should get Gold and Stimpson probably has the best chance for Gold in the Womens as well

not sure if Thorpe is working for the BBC for the commonwealths, think he signed a deal to work on Aussie TV for it

Ah that'd be a shame, though he is listed as being on the team on the right in the BBC press pack

And Mark tagged him in a tweet this morning

I hope the Athletics stadium is filled up... there were a lot of empty seats during the Glasgow Grand Prix a few weeks ago.

I would be surprised and disappointed if it isn't, I expect most of the venues to be full off the back of those who didn't get to go to London
Ah that'd be a shame, though he is listed as being on the team on the right in the BBC press pack

Maybe he's doing the morning sessions for Bbc and the afternoon/evening sessions for Channel 10 in Australia or vice versa, either way hopefully he is on the team

Won't be as good as the Olympics anyway, but it isn't trying to be, there was something a bit mesmerising about cheering on people in the lesser publisiced sports, getting emotional over dancing horses >>>> and canoeing or taekwondo, but I am excited nonetheless for the Commonwealths. Hopefully Alistair or Johnny provide us with our first gold medal of the games.
The Commonwealths is more like the friendly games, people still care about winning but its traditional and about the message of human rights and unity but after the Olympics there seems to be more of a competitive edge to it this year more so then Manchester, if we get ****ing boo'd tonight though at that ****hole ground then there will be no mercy :idc:

I'm starting to think we won't win any Gold medals in Athletics now... unless Kaliese Spencer messes up and Eilidh Child steals the win from her.

Great stuff :worship:
So a definite medal for Ashley in the Judo, a definite in the team pursuit? and then some potential swimming ones, don't know how we've gotten on today in that really, know that Scotland were doing well. And then Jonny/Alistair in the triathlon. Not a bad first day at all.

Only man in the field to go sub 23 seconds too which is a PB for him
Fran is on fire as well, don't think anyone expected her to be this good same with Peaty
England are on 11 gold medals now as well, 5 more added today to take us 3 above Australia (who are tipped to dominate)

Shooting this morning was great as well. it's actually a tense and brilliant watch. I remember crying so much when Peter Wilson won at the Olympics. Shame he won't be here.
Amber Hill disappointing though :( I think we will have a good enough team to challenge USA at Rio, Siobhan is getting better all the time and she has a better start and more all rounded then most swimmers, she was so close to winning Gold in one of her less preferred disaplines
Another Solid day and we are neck and neck with The Aussies in the medal table now, great performance by Zoe in the weightlifting and breaking the commonwealth record, Really hope Fran gets gold later now
Yes!!!!!! So happy for her, she is amazing <3
Siobhan going quicker then Coutts, she actually has a chance for Gold at this rate

Good to hear Steve Cram back on commentary :worship:
Wow Thompson didn't even finish in the top 2 in the 1st heat, he still should make it though but he doesn't look on form at all
Harry always starts so bad and then doesn't get into it until the halfway stage, should go through with that time though
Gemili with a great run, 10.15
Jemal
27-07-2014, 02:15 PM
Man i love gemili
Kilty through thanks to a joint 2nd finish, Gemili still fastest so far
Brown outside the top 3 now as well, Gemili is the only runner who has had a decent run from the medal contenders

I really hope squash gets added to the Olympic programme in Tokyo, I've watched a bit of it the last few days and it's really quite good
Almost as in to it as I was handball and water polo during London
I liked Handball but we pit hardly any investment into it here so our team was so bad, think we lost all our games, Squash is becoming more popular nowdays and the World Champs on Sky got great interest, we've got 3 Englishman men in the Semis and Massaro in the womens Semi finals
Decent runs by Asha and Papps to make it through, Ahye didn't look anywhere near as good as she did a couple of weeks ago
So depressing watching the Aussies dominate at the valedrome, only Joana has stayed on form from the Olympics, Kenny has gone downhill big time and Laura doesn't look as good either, Wiggins should have done individual as well as team
Another gold for us in the Tandem!! can't believe they have withdrawn it from Rio, terrible decision
Thank god Laura has redeemed some pride for us, Kenny needs to take some lessons from her
Black Dagger
27-07-2014, 05:15 PM
That cycling was so intense then.
Really don't know what has happened with our guys tho. Disappointing. Kierin was my favourite event in the cycling outside of the Elimination race at the Olympics so it's a shame that we have no finalist in it.
At least we have a wake up call before Rio now, just read that Laura has had a kidney infection and she hasn't ate properly for the past few days and still won an endurance race like that
Black Dagger
27-07-2014, 05:59 PM
It is odd how cycling has sort of tailed off and we sort of expect more gold medals in the swimming now to make up for it.

Amazing win by some English guy in a down to the wire table tennis match
After having led 2-0 he won 3-2 in a final game that was won after 11 match points
First time I've cheered at a win these games, didn't think it'd come in a random tennis table match I switched onto :joker:
The crowd was so into that match the atmosphere must have been unreal, that celebration at the end as well >
Wow South Africa have beat NZ in the 7s at Ibrox, first time NZ have ever lost in the commonwealths, massive shock
We have 2 English men in the Squash final and one in the bronze medal match and the Men's table tennis team and mixed badminton team in the finals as well, amazing stuff
Black Dagger
27-07-2014, 09:52 PM
That table tennis celebration from Pitchford was superb. :joker:
And I'm the same Shaun. I was so into Olympics but I thought I'd just be a casual watcher of the games but I've had the official website up with the schedule up and been multi screening and watching events again that I usually wouldn't outside of Olympics and Commonwealths. That shooting today was brilliant.

Black Dagger

The one thing I'm really enjoying about these games is the amount of crowd support the home nations are getting, not just Scotland but Wales, England etc too. All massive cheers and even chants of 'ENGLAND!!!' in some of the arenas which is surprisingly amazing, it's really nice to see :flutter:
All the crowds seem to be really enthusiastic and near full in most of the sports I've been watching too which is also great, reminds me of London. I'm definitely as addicted as I was two years ago, have been watching for about 10 hours each day

Well done Adam. Always Jamaica ffs
Quality stuff from Gemili, gives him a good platform to build from going into Rio, he took a few world class scalpes tonight, Blessing has been class in every race, domination.
So far I think the most impressive performance over the past few days is Siobhan simply because she ripped a good swimmer like Coutts a new one and she is still 18, I expect her to break world records and dominate for years, can't see anything or anyone touching her. 2 years ago in London she was 16 and looked good now 2 years later she looks world class so just wait til Rio
Would like to see the Siobhan destroying Missy Franklin in the 200 freestyle at Rio, that would be the GOAT swimming moment surpassing the Adlington double in 2008
Brother Leon

Swimming<<
Probably the event I care the least about(out of actual popular events anyway).
Its amazing how we are still just 3 golds behind the Aussies in the medal table, they took over 70 golds in India if we can keep this up we might break our gold record from 1986, although athletics doesn't look promising for us apart from the Para guys like Weir and Peacock
Black Dagger
28-07-2014, 11:24 PM
I always thought Weir was Scottish!
1st going into the final day of both the Womens/Men's teams in Gymnastics tomorrow so that could be a good start to the Gymnastics as we're likely going to get a 1/2 in the Horse with Smith and Whitlock.
Proud was superb as well in the pool tonight, Dad was all like 'he won't qualify here I don't think he'll be strong enough' and I was like erm.
There is a Scottish David weir as well the footballer, probably why you thought that and I missed the Proud race he looks a talent though, Whitlock was amazing yesterday failing a disaster he should have gold wrapped up and the same with the team gold medal, really looking forward to the Porter and Pearson hurdles showdown now
Gold for England in team Gymnastics

More Gymnastics as well. Was brilliant today. Done great in overhauling the deficit in the table. Actually wouldn't be shocked if we topped the table or were only a gold medal or two off.
Swimming and Cycling are out the way now so their Gold count will die down a lot, but they still have Netball and Hockey golds to come no doubt :idc: although we have Squash doubles and Boxing which we are looking great in

I was hoping that Canadian girl would **** up as well on that exact tumble and she did, thank you god :worship:

PSD would have smashed Spencers time today in the final and Child was nowhere near her, shows how weak the 400 hurdles cimpetition was here and good to see Jodie is slowly getting back to her amazing junior form.

I think we should get it now. We should win the squash finals, we have a guaranteed gold in the mixed badminton and I would imagine we will win at least one more boxing good tonight.
