what is a ditchwater

A ditch is a type of shallow trench or gully dug beside a road, I believe the intention is to take water from the road when it's raining, so the road won't get flooded. And ditch water is mostly dirty and yea very dull.

If you google image what a ditch is, a lot of them will have water

In the city gutters are used for pretty much the same purpose, however they usually direct the rainwater down drains, whereas I believe the ditch water is just left to evaporate, I may be wrong.

Anyhoo, the fact so many don't know what a ditch or ditch water is (maybe it's a rural thing), the saying switched to dishwater, something more people had experience with.

:laugh2: nope I'm not a redneck, although I really like listening to the deep southern accent.

I just like words and phrases, and where they come from.

I guess it just depends as people are different and I'd say you can use both words for one saying
