Gareth Gates plots comeback with documentary
Saturday, October 14 2006, 10:43 BST - by Ben Rawson-Jones

Gareth Gates is planning to relaunch his music career with the help of an ITV documentary.

Camera crews have been following the chart-topping Pop Idol star in recent months as he works on new material and seeks a record deal.

An spokesperson for ITV1 said the hour-long programme will "showcase some of Gareth's new music as he prepares to re-launch back into the spotlight to do what he loves most".

22-year-old Gates was released from his contract with Sony BMG after his second album Go Your Own Way failed to reach the Top 10. This followed a tabloid expose of his affair with glamour model Jordan, despite Gates' initial denials. With his innocent image shattered, his predominantly young female fanbase deserted him.

The ITV1 spokesman added: "This prime-time footage will show the impacts and consequences that fame thrusts upon artists hoping to survive successfully within the pressures of the music industry."

Is it me or does anyone else THINK that this will be a WASTE of tv time i mean Lisa Scott Lee did the same thing with MTV with her trying to get her carrer break but her single only MANAGED to make No.15. I think Gareth is just wasting time he will just flop AGAIN.... BUT if he DID manage to get a TOP 10 then good but i personaly think the music industry these days is JUST so hard

Most people dont know when to quit. I think he's had his time. He was big at one point, then failed. Do they not understand?

Seven top 5 singles is pretty decent, just his 2nd album that didn't do that well but the singles still sold well.

That just means bad record sales... it doesn't mean that musically his songs weren't good.

There isnt one song in this world that doesnt have people who dislike it. Obviously with Gareth Gates there are people who dislike his music, but as his first album record sales show; many people liked his music.

i LOVED Gareth. I'd love it if he made a comeback!
Dunno if id like him as much now but I think id give his stuff a try!

I HATE all the stuff about reaching top 10. What happened to good music, not good sales. Years ago people did great to get a Top 10. Now if you get below 3 in the charts your a failure!
