Genuinely wondering if I'm the only ones that notices this but when Ashleigh goes into the DR she changes her voice and speaks all sweet/Childlike unless she's annoyed or ranting

She doesnt speak like this outside the DR

Anyone else notice this?

She's speaks all most the same, but she probably speaks like that because she is more comfortable in the DR

This thread will just turn into another Ashleigh doesn't say any think to Helen in front of her face she rants in the DR

I think she does it to come across as more childlike to the viewers, even in the house she may not speak kinda babyish however she will walk around like a toddler with her cuddly toy and in her pajamas.

It's worked well for her so far, I don't think she's gonna change tactics.

Not sure. It's not as bad as her "Awww, Thank youuu" voice when she wins an online poll though. That is extremely child like.

Who cares though, when in the DR people feel more comfortable.

Not here for people start picking at her for having a higher voice like they did with Luisa

It's nothing to do with a higher voice.... But anyway if you aren't here for it then dont post in the thread, the rest of us here are having a discussion.

Childlike = higher pitched

But without Sam and my post this thread would have been one sided so it's good to get some balance

Because talking to a producer behind a camera is different to talking to people face to face?

Doubtful. Of all of the criticisms levelled at Ashleigh this is one of the milder. It's still wrong of course.

It might be a normal reaction for her when she speaks to people that are in a position to judge her, if she was in a situation where people are going to judge her. wouldn't be surprise if there was youtube video out there in a model show with her displaying this type of behavior.

It's all part of the 'little-cutie package' that she is deploying to win the popularity contest!...It goes with the teddy bear and sulky little girl persona !...Andthe reason that it becomes pronounced in the DR..[when she is not giving one of her spoilt brat rants] is because she knows that there is a good chance that it will be shown on the HL's [she's watched the programme avidly!] and in the privacy of the DR...she has maximum opportunity to convince the viewer that "she really is a innocent, picked on little girl that deserves your vote!!" ..:bawling:

A lot of people in this thread are claiming that Ashleigh uses a sweet DR voice to win over the public and get what she wants by appearing as cute, but I think a lot of Ashleigh's supporters (me included) appreciate that she's a strong woman who has brought so much more to the show than what you would expect from her appearance. I don't like her because she acts "sweet" and I don't perceive her in that way at all really. I like her for quite the opposite reason.

Basically, if you believe that Ashleigh uses a sweet act to win over the public then it's not really working for her. I believe she is liked regardless of this sweet persona that she's apparently trying to put on.

I noticed her lovely soft tone when she was weighing up her decision during the shopping task - but whenever the camera went back into the main house for the housemates reaction Ashleigh could hardly be heard over them.

Hmm I could believe that tbh had she not spoke in different voices whilst in there, like tonight during the interview task (which is where I noticed it so much) she was talking in the voice I described in the OP then when she said 'I don't think this is going very well' she spoke in the normal way she speaks in the house.

user104658

As a more sensible contribution: it could be as simple as a subconscious situational inflection. For example, most people have a "phone voice" - they use a slightly different voice when they speak on the phone than they do when speaking face-to-face. It's really noticable if you're speaking to someone and then they get a phone call and take it...

"Yeah I was telling Bob about what happened at the weekend..."
*phone rings*
"Oh sorry I need to take this."
*voice pitch suddenly goes up*
"Haaaallooh?"

You can't see anyone in the DR... it probably is kind of like talking to someone on the phone.

She def puts on a cutey voice in the DR (and at other select times)

It's the same thing as Mark's affected scouse accent or Winston's exaggerated geezerness

Every HM walks in to a VT displaying them as a certain character type (the model, the muscle man, the player, the bitch, the crazy hippy etc)

Ashleigh knows her role is the cutesy teen 'baby of the house' - hence the teddy bear and the voice she puts on at certain times that you pointed out in the thread

Its pretty common knowledge that people change/adapt their voices depending on the situation. 'telephone voice' is a prime example when we are probably at our post articulate and polite. I havent noticed Ashleigh put on this tone of voice particularly in the house but she has done it in the DR before. Its probably very much the case that she is responding to 'Big Brother' as an older sibling and shes being excitable and endearing in hope 'Big Brother' doesnt present something challenging for her to do such as a task.

Genuinely wondering if I'm the only ones that notices this but when Ashleigh goes into the DR she changes her voice and speaks all sweet/Childlike unless she's annoyed or ranting

She doesnt speak like this outside the DR

Anyone else notice this?

Most petulant children tend to do that. :idc:

When my 3 year old cousin puts on the butter wouldn't melt coy little voice we always think "What a mature woman" :umm2:

Love her cutesie voice love her ranting and swearing in the diary room, it's just how she feels.

On the Ashleigh is spoilt note, if I have a little girl I am going to tell her every day she is the most precious most beautiful girl on the planet and I am going to spoil her with love affection and everything her little heart desires and that is what every little girl deserves.
