one of the greats
“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late,” read an official statement. “This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”
His wife, Susan Schneider, released a statement saying she was “utterly heartbroken” and hoped “that the focus will not be on Robin’s death.”
“This morning I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings,” she said in the statement. “On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laugher he gave to millions.”
Very very sad.

The love for him on Twitter is truly amazing to see. He's being treated almost as part of the family because he cheered people up when they were down through then magnificence of his films. I'm still in shock at this. There's something about this that makes it even worse and that's the fact that he was so funny, but behind closed doors he was severely depressed.

I used to watch Mrs. Doubtfire possibly hundreds of times as a child because of the ending scene and its general overarching message of parents going through separation not necessarily being the end of childhood and family love, it was the most comforting film for me because of that.

It's funny Shaun, because as a child I hated it (the ending). Growing up though, I started to realise it wasn't sunshine and rainbows and then the film meant a whole lot more to me. It didnt make me cry until my parents split up, which was in my late teenage years.

I watch films with people online all the time, we type to each other on skype or whatever in a small window and have the film streaming, then just say 3 2 1 go and press play at the same time. :joker: It's fun, more fun that watching a film alone at 3am or whatever, if a friend is awake and can watch too!

dead poets society one of the greatest movies ive ever seen......
Im envious that you are seeing it for the first time and will enjoy the thrill of seeing it as well as his many other legendary movies
id also recommend awakenings with deniro, good will hunting for which he won an oscar, good morning vietnam, les famous classics include the survivors with the equally legendary walter matthau, cadillac man, one hour photo, patch adams brilliant, fisher king is great, being human, insomina, world according to garp, jumanji, birdcage, what dreams may come, etc and his movies were just a miniscule fraction of his infinite talent and passion
he could speak on almost any topic eloquently, intelligently, knowledgably and hilariously....he could impersonate most people, he could riff on any subject, interviewers didnt even ask questions they just sat back and laughed and marvelled at the bigest genius in hollywood.....

the media talks around these subjects but never addresses the subject full on
people are depressed , millions of them...why? they pop a pill and it numbs the pain, but why is there pain? i believe were trying to be too scientific about it, were trying to find factual answers when the truth is its a complex social problem. people are lonely, isolated, unfulfilled in their relations
even kings and queens like elvis, marylin monroe, james dean, whitmey houston ,jim belushi, kurt cobain, richard pryor was an alcohlic as was larry hagman, richard burton, amy winehouse, alex higgins, george best, now robin williams to name but a few of the legends who were ravaged by drink or drugs or suicide
i ask myself they were entertaining the world and making us all happy....but who was making them happy?
i feel resigned myself to the horror in this world, not the wars in foreign fields, what kills me is the coldness in the hearts of the people we meet...stuck up kids brought up by stuck up superficial parents...style over substance, where image and ego supercedes everything
i see people attend weddings and funerals and nothing in between. people who only do kind things in front of acamera and never behind one...all front and no back people. never there for you in life in tough times, yet they attend your funeral to look like good people and drink free wine
all it takes fo revil to succeed is for good men to do nothing
good people need to reconnect more, this world needs changing now
lets start tonight, for robin

To be fair I think it would be highly inappropriate to start reporting on depression and mental illness in relation to his death this early. Very little is actually known.
I think, for now at least, it's best they report his death, offer condolences to his loved ones and have guests to share happy memories about him. Remember what a great person he was.

Statement from his daughter Zelda's tumblr
12th Aug 2014 | 1,161 notes
My family has always been private about our time spent together. It was our way of keeping one thing that was ours, with a man we shared with an entire world. But now that’s gone, and I feel stripped bare. My last day with him was his birthday, and I will be forever grateful that my brothers and I got to spend that time alone with him, sharing gifts and laughter. He was always warm, even in his darkest moments. While I’ll never, ever understand how he could be loved so deeply and not find it in his heart to stay, there’s minor comfort in knowing our grief and loss, in some small way, is shared with millions. It doesn’t help the pain, but at least it’s a burden countless others now know we carry, and so many have offered to help lighten the load. Thank you for that.
To those he touched who are sending kind words, know that one of his favorite things in the world was to make you all laugh. As for those who are sending negativity, know that some small, giggling part of him is sending a flock of pigeons to your house to poop on your car. Right after you’ve had it washed. After all, he loved to laugh too…
Dad was, is and always will be one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I’ve ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colorful and less full of laughter in his absence. We’ll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again.
—My only statement. My brothers’ are also online. Thank you for all your kindness, and goodbye for awhile guys. xo

despite the tragedy at the end this is one man whos life was so full and his star shone so dazzlingly brightly, in the end it will drown out the darkness and leave us with a lifetime of joy and love
..that's beautiful truth...I think with the person who he was we will always remember what we had more than what was lost and that's the measure of him...there is nothing more you could give people...

also he was inspiring cause it shows you don't have to be the tallest guy in the world, or the best looking guy, or the smartest guy, he had a super successful career despite not being the stereotype perfect hollywood leading man.

..yeah he was always one of my 'weird crushes' because he was not seen as 'stereotypically 'handsome'...the beauty inside him was almost dazzling though..

[Robin Williams had 'serious money troubles' before his death
The Mrs Doubtfire actor, found hanged in his California home,
had been battling with depression and money worries ]
[Robin Williams was found hanged after telling friends he had “serious money troubles”
and had sought treatment for depression in the weeks before his death, it has emerged.
The 63-year-old actor, who was once reputed to be worth £75 million, had complained
of losing a large chunk of his fortune in alimony payments to his two ex-wives,
and had been trying to sell his 600-acre ranch in California to raise much-needed funds.
Police said Williams had been found dead in a bedroom at his home by his personal assistant. ]

tortured myself and watched his oscar speech again. I'm now angry.
Honestly when I looked at him I always felt he was a man that didn't look happy. I sometimes felt sorry for him and I don't even know why. I never watched his interviews where he talked about depression.

Christopher mentioned him being like Mrs Doubtfire in the Highlights Show just before he died. He's gonna be pretty upset :(

Absolutely atrocious reason for an infraction. Disgusting.
The quote sent to me did not break any rules.
