View Full Version : Non-League thread
Don't think we really have a place to talk about non-league football, might not be used that much but here it is if we need it
Forest Green making it two wins from two tonight beating the Chester twats to keep them rooted to the bottom of the table

We are 4 points from 2 games in the Conference North
Ridiculous that they even put us in the Conference North to begin with, some of the teams are 5-6 hours away

shouldn't have expected to beat forum legend Harry's surname tbf
Season is basically a write off for Forest Green already, lost 2-1 to league leaders Barnet today even after equalising in like the 85th minute :fist: we were crap today though so didn't deserve much though Barnet weren't great either. Annoying that it's blatantly gonna be another mid table and 'maybe next year' season which is what people have been saying the last 3/4 years
Thankfully we are only playing those Torquay nobheads on Tuesday so looking forward to an easy win then
We want Pennock out I say

Well done to the ref for sending Torquay down to ten men for the last 15 with one of the softest second yellows I've ever seen
Torquay 2-0 and 3-1 up today and Forest Green still get a 3-3 draw :clap1:

got FM15 the other day and to think that the board expected me to get promoted straight away again :inamood:
Was hearing the other day that Torquay's players are only paid £375 a week on average, surprising for whats actually a pretty big club

Hmm that doesn't surprise me tbh, our chairwoman's just stood down and she was only funding the club with lottery winnings her late husband won so idk how finances are doing, but can't be great
One more game away from the playoffs :worry: title race is going down to next weekend as well, what a final day of the season its gonna be
If Torquay could do us a favour and beat Macclesfield next weekend that would be lovely

Tranmere have everything at their disposal to still be playing at League 1 level yet are flopping in the Conference. Time to bring Jason Koumas back out of retirement for a second time
Still top of the league!!!!!
Tranmere must be quaking in their boots at the prospect of visiting the New Lawn next Saturday
even though i rarely go to Chester games anymore its good to see them holding their own, league is a bit to competitive for them in their financial situation to aim for promotion yet, solid enough squad though to stay up though
Taylor-Fletcher has signed for Tranmere

Would hate hate hate to see Salford City win Evo Stick Northern Premier. Would love to see Barwell or Workington win but would settle for the probably Blythe Spartans triumph if it means the smug class of '92 (Giggs, Neville, Scholars, Butt et al) are stopped in their tracks from turning Salford City into Man U lite.
Really want Histon to survive the Southern League Premier
Shocked that Cheltenham have got pole position over Forest Green in National League.
Interesting article in FourFourTwo mag (Pep on cover) about how alot of teams in Northern League have no interest in gaining promotion as its currently convenient for players to play games against local opposition and can be home in time for tea!

Cheltenham have got a good squad and a good manager although they have adjusted to the league surprisingly well. It's normally very hard for league clubs to bounce straight back but looks like Cheltenham will follow Bristol Rovers in doing it first time of asking. Quite annoying that in any other league coming second would ensure automatic promotion but not in the Conference. The way things are going both Cheltenham and FGR will have more points than are normally needed to win the league and I expect they'll be well clear of whoever comes third.

Yes, I underestimated Cheltenham. Really thought FG R would easily win title like Bayern or PSG with no competition. I really rate midfielder Jack Munns he might not have stature (neither does Messi) but he has power and great vision. He's definitely one of those non League players that could walk into a weak EPL squad like WBA, Sunderland or AVFC. Why don't the injury hit big clubs go for him or even a championship side? So many talented players in non League who with a bit of TLC and nurturing could play top level football. Bromley's Moses Emmanuel and Grimsby's Bogle are other non League players who IMHO are better than anything AVFC have to offer.
Some EPL clubs missed a trick in January transfer window. These guys would contribute more than Radamel Falcao or Benteke who are just burning up cash on wages that could have gone on bringing in cheaper lower League players. Too much snobbiness especially in these lower league bargain bucket Vardy/Mahrez/ Kante times
Dover going well, too. Agree, I hate it when two teams do well and there is only 1 automatic place. Imho a "Play off place" should be for #3 place downwards. Getting back into football league is a big deal, not just a lottery.
I also feel bad for Hyde. Ok they were sh*te and deserved to be relegated but they could be relegated again. Sad times.:puzzled::shrug::facepalm::o:umm2::umm2:

I tell you which non league player is getting attention from league teams such as Norwich, Leicester, Colchester United, Brighton, Huddlesfield: Ashley Nadesan a sensation playing Horley Town [combined counties league premier division] . He's 21, bagged 50 goals and is imho definitely better than a Cameron Jerome.
http://www.surreymirror.co.uk/Nadesan-notches-brace-Horley-Town-beat-Ashford/story-29047224-detail/story.htmlhttp://www.surreymirror.co.uk/Nadesan-notches-brace-Horley-Town-beat-Ashford/story-29047224-detail/story.html
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3502926/Norwich-City-tracking-non-League-star-Ashley-Nadesan-Horley-Town-forward-nets-44-goals-competitions-season.html
Premier league sides, especially struggling ones need to take a few risks. Villa have a relatively big wage big in relation to their almost relegated league position. Villa and Newcastle tried buying proven quality and it's backfired and been financially costly. How would have taking a gamble on eager beaver non league starlet have made things worse? At worst AV go down, which they are anyway, their wage bill would be lower (non league players will take any amount as it's an improvement on their non existent non league wages - eg Chris Smalling is still massivley underpaid at Man U even though he left his non league days behind him at Fulham, but he's just happy being in EPL).
Nadesan's been lazily labelled the "new Vardy" (isn't every decent non league striker now?). Too be fair he's pacy, tenacious with a cold deadly eye for goal. But he's more like a poor man's Robert Lewandowski for me and that's not a bad thing to be.
Winchester's Warren Bentley is getting talked up too. Another product of Sotons world class Youth Academy
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35916899
I understand the big clubs want big names: Zlatan's, Poga's, Lukaku's, Griezmann's, Renate Sanchez's and Cavani's etc. But how will taking a punt on a non league player harm the cause? Why not have both big name and non league player. The non league won't moan like a baby when he gets zilch playing time as he's picking up crazy money (£1k a week is brilliant for an ex non league player ) and he will play with full throttle if he ever is called up to play.
It's pi$$ed me off that Arsenal have snatched one of Leicester's fabled Scouts. It's these scouts who bring the non league and lower league fare such as Vardy and Mahrez to EPL. It's not as if Arsenal will want him to get the next Mahrez, so why did they hire him? To stop any crazy possible plan to turn Leicester into an empire. Spiteful really.

On the train back from Wembley now and buzzing, what a day. We definitely deserved that on the day and now next year we have derbies against Swindon, Cheltenham, Newport and Yeovil to look forward to, what a year it's gonna be
Poor old Torquay, now their nearest club is gonna be even further
