View Full Version : What makes a housemate entertaining?

I've always wondered this, because to the majority it seems like being loud and waving your arms around makes you an entertaining housemate. http://i.imgur.com/bO36ME8.gif

To me Ash, Ashleigh, Winston and to a degree Helen have been the most entertaining housemates this series, yet alot of people call the 1st 3 boring. :idc: Mark was easily the most boring housemate until the final week he was there, and the only entertainment he provided in that week was being shouted at by Christopher. For the first 4 or 5 weeks though Mark was considered the entertainer by most! :omg: That fact in of itself is more entertaining than he was. As for Slobven and Kimbot, they could piss off from week 2 tbh, even before the whole Steverly facade.

Do people get tricked by fake personas and tantrums or something? All that does is takes air time from the more interesting housemates who can entertain from what comes from their brains.

The housemates I find most "entertaining" are the ones that are nice and interesting.

Steven is an example of a rubbish housemate, because he is disgusting person and everything he did in the house was of zero interest to me. His entertainment value is ZERO.

How much they contribute to the show and thus how many discussions they create amongst the fans on forums, social media, BOTS and in real life. The most talked about housemates are - with a few exceptions to allow for unjustifiable housemates like Jade in CBB5 to be discounted - the most entertaining since debate is what keeps shows like this afloat.

The stars of the show this year have been Helen, Ashleigh, Steven, Mark :clap1: as well as Danielle and Christopher and then to a lesser extent Toya and Pauline. The rest had their moments (Biancca, Matthew, Marlon, Winston), were supporting characters (Chris, Jale, Ash, Kimberly) or were fodder (Pav, Zoe, Tamara)

Yes Seven is a zero as is danielle as they are fake with a capital F -so it is tiresome to watch them

All I want is stuff to discuss or look at. Humour mainly or mentalness

I've found Helen and Mark the most entertaining because they're both more than a bit nuts.. Mark's rants have been entertaining, there are times he has annoyed me to distraction, but I usually ended up laughing at him.. and Helen, well, I just love her! :)

Mark wasn't funny though, you don't have to be funny to act funny. He was tiring to watch and irritating, his fakeness was so obvious to see. Steven is a prime example of why drumming up debates isn't always entertaining, I don't think anyone on here actually had fun discussing his time in that house, he was fecking awful in every way. He filled me with anger more than anything :joker:, Ash/Winston >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Steven.

Entertainment is a purely individual choice...it doesn't matter how loud people shout about drama = entertainment, it doesn't make it true.

I prefer interesting housemates, that I can try to work out, seeing how they react in different situations, tasks etc but also someone that likes to have fun and doesn't take themselves too seriously.

I don't mind the odd argument when it occurs naturally either.

Balance is the key IMO.

Very wise words. :clap1:

This series has had some of the most contrived fake housemates ever and Big Brother has created a contrived, fake atmosphere in there too.

Being controversial, Extroverted, Intelligent, Honest, and Blunt. Also has a fun side and stirring drama is cool.

In every series from Craig until now, not one nasty, devious person has won. Guess the GBP prefer the nicer HM's

There's obviously not a concrete answer to this, but quality over quantity. People like Hira and Susie are the key examples of this --- they definitely weren't featured as much as others, but whenever they were I found them hysterical and/or righteous.

I think my main issue with the "talking points" thing is that we're committing ourselves to an insane amount of television viewing so there are always going to be talking points. Like, we're a bunch of freaks who willfully give up an hour (or two for BOTS watchers) of our day for 60-90 days to watch this ****. We're always going to find things to talk about.

People who are decent, normal, funny, interesting. Loud and obnoxious and nasty aren't entertaining to me. It depends on various things though, as well as their effect on the dynamics of the group (hence why people like Pauline, Helen and Steven have 0% entertainment value because they are too controlling, boring and unpleasant to watch).

Chris, Christopher and Matthew were the most entertaining for me this series because I enjoyed their journeys and the way they are, their humour, the conversations they have and the problems they overcame. But I also like Ashleigh and quite liked Mark for some reason, but found all the other housemates boring.

Last year I found Dexter and Gina the most entertaining because they were funny and interesting to watch. Gina was my least favourite to begin with because she just came in being loud and annoying, but she showed a lot of different sides to herself and moved up to second favourite. I also found the dynamics between the entire group for Secrets & Lies was entertaining, so even the housemates I didn't like contributed to an interesting dynamic and were for the most part, worthwhile and entertaining housemates (Sophie and Sam were pretty pointless and Callum got on my nerves though).

And the 2012 BB, Adam and Luke A are the most entertaining because all the other housemates are vile creatures who make me sick to watch them. I don't really find any of those people entertaining.

not a great year of housemates imo

i found mark the most boring by far.....pav hasnt really done much either
helens self obsession has been boring though ive enjoyed when ash takes to pee out of her
toya was boring one trick pony too
pauline no thanks

i think ash has been hard done by the viewers this year....hes been a good housemate and entered into the spirit of it all, hes aughed hes had a fondle, hes had the odd argument, hes had bely laughs galore with wisnton and co,hes even been a good magician, good painter, great task master, under rated

steve was a prat but did have some strange moments of bizarre entertainment

chris another odd character, hes not been a bad hm though, lots of fakery and contradictions but also some funny observations too

jale meh some ok psychic babble

marlon....bit too quiet really....made a few fair observations other meh

kim. very pretty. other than that a bit stone faced didnt say much...erm bit of a cold fish not sure stil she really loves steve, maybe she does maybe im wrong

danielle...yeah quite entertaining. the whole dexter training to be a contradictory character....the saint v sinner narrative was ok but it ran out of steam in th eend and she failed to really be herself. her seducing winston was a bizarre akward highlight

winston yeah good value, good entertainment, always up for a laugh, bit of a doe eyed puppy at times, but actualy astute , good listener, but always ready to have a fun jump around like a demented ape, flirt with tamara, run from biannca and danielle etc good value

pav. ok at times, good as a barrister....some good observations, exposed chris a bit.....clever in some .....gave people he didnt like on tv a chance

zoe energetic big headed pain in the neck...but at leats livened things up i suppose, good body, awful clothes, delusions of grandeur

matthew, very under rated....pretty sarky and bitchy...funny at times...something quirky and entertaining about him though...decent effort

christopher my winner
romantic, smart, manic, fair minded, chatty, observant, emotional, fighting insecurities, brave, had arguments, found peace, gone crackers, lost himself, found himself, cared for the housemates like pav....straddled the 2 groups

who else ? oh bainnca , the most boring by far. got her kit off , that was it, pathetic

lots of vaid points there fair play about nasty loud crudeness being supposedly more entertaining than witty suctle genuine warm friendly people....its the whole dumbed down chavland culture that seems to push that agenda

Yeah I go for witty, intelligent, energetic, outgoing with a "realness" that includes a realistic view of themselves and others and the house.

Would be nice if there were people who weren't on the show too much just for their own agenda but it looks like that's impossible now.

I don't watch Jeremy Kyle for a reason- I stopped watching BB for a similar reason this time.

Good post which sums up my own thoughts.OTT contrived behaviours create some entertainment but to much becomes predictable and boring (Mark).

Genuine reaction from a lower profile HM entertains gradually (Christopher).

I did not like Toya but imo she did entertain.

A good show on balance and that's why we watch and discuss. This time a lot of my interest and entertainment has come from reading and sharing thoughts with members on this forum so cheers to all.
