Split while their popularity is high, then have a reunion in a few years time, it's a tried and tested formula

Oh no - I'll have to call The Samaritans if they split! :D

If any of them go solo they will flop. However they are all rich enough never have to work again for the rest of their lives.

They're exhausted. They toured all last year, had barely any time off as they promoted their third album, released two singles and filmed the videos and were straight back on tour around the world again for this tour. Then as soon as this tour is finished they're promoting their fourth album and are back on tour at the start of 2015.

I can't say I'm surprised they're ending, because I've expected it for a while. I'm surprised they're staying that long.

It's always foolish for boy bands to throw it away at their height in the long run because their fans have no loyalty. The band ends, the fans get a little bit older and suddenly it's uncool to have ever liked the band and that means they can only "reform" once those teenage girls are grown women and maybe a fraction of them would pay to see them perform live. I always think boy bands should just milk it until they've outstayed their welcome and THEN do the reunion thing. Perfect example: Westlife. It's stupid to throw it all away and make a desperate bid for a solo career. None of One Direction have the charisma or performance skills to be viable solo artists. I'm sure a couple of them will have a couple of hit singles, but there is no Beyoncé or Justin Timberlake in this band. I wonder, when they split, if it'll come out that some of them hate each other?

Girl bands can get away with splitting up and reuniting to great success because gay men are far more loyal to brands than teenage girls, it's been proven time and time again.

Absolutely, it's a shame

That's why I think it's stupid that boy bands throw it all away before they have to; a solo career might seem enticing but very few group members are suited to being a solo star. You fill the stage when you're part of a group by virtue of safety in numbers; you need to be very charismatic to pull off doing it on your own and you have so much more to prove than other people because everyone's expecting you to fail so the bar is set higher. Blue were foolish to throw it away when they did; they could have kept on going. Now, they're trying to carry on and all their original fans have moved on and radios won't touch them. Just so stupid.

Marsh.

Yeah, I can't see any of them becoming Robbie Williams or Gary Barlow.

Harry Styles will just become tabloid trash more than he already is.

Only worked with Take That really but they had no gay members... Same thing will happen with One Direction, their solo careers won't work and when they eventually get back together, there'll be no one waiting for them

Marsh.
18-08-2014, 02:47 PM
Take That grew up with their fans and moved their sound forward and matured.

Blue's problem is their music is too immature for their original fan base who have grown up and they're too old to get a new generation of fans who are focussed on 1D and all the other teenage boy bands so now they're stuck in a limbo.

Take That put a lot of hard work in and waited an exceptionally long time to get back together, as well, let's not forget. They started the current trend of reuniting old pop acts. Take That came first, Steps followed in their footsteps a few years later and then the Big Reunion cheapened the entire format and now we have an overload of reuniting acts and the public doesn't care anymore. Jury's out on whether Take That have any gay members IMO... and same goes for One Direction... But I don't think any of them have what it takes to be successful solo stars; I'd imagine a couple of them will get an album out but not one of them can dance and none of them are so brilliant at singing that they could feasibly avoid the dance routine ****. That said, the UK's been missing a male popstar for a very long time (Olly Murs just feels like the understudy for the role, he's never properly stepped up to the challenge) so I could be wrong I guess.

I know Zayn has been working with Naughty Boy and Emeli Sandé which could be a potential route for someone with his vocal style to go down. As for the rest, I can't see them being successful. I guess they may venture into acting, but the only one who has a background with that is Louis.

Z
18-08-2014, 02:58 PM
Niall and Louis are ITV Saturday Night TV guest panellists at best. Liam will put out an album that no one will listen to. Harry and Zayn could feasibly get a run of singles and an album out but I can't see either of them making a solo career happen beyond that.

Marsh.
18-08-2014, 02:59 PM
Niall will be the Nicola Roberts. Maybe put out a well received album but not have the fame or popularity of the others to make it go anywhere so he'll do a few BBC Three documentaries about Ireland.

Z
18-08-2014, 03:03 PM
Nah I can't see that happening at all, I think Niall's more likely to return to a quiet life and maybe have a C-lister celebrity girlfriend and have an OK! wedding, that sort of celebrity. Louis is an attention seeker so no doubt he'll be a regular on the Celebrity Juice etc circuit and taking part in any and every reality TV show just to stay relevant. Liam seems like he enjoys making music but isn't particularly attention seeking compared to his band mates so I'd imagine he'll give it a go, no one will show interest because he won't put 100% into it and he'll give up and retire from the public eye until they reunite.

Louis wrote most of the most recent album so he could maybe go to writing. He's desperate to come out to the closet, so much that he's doing hard drugs (look at how gaunt he looks, he used to have flesh in his face).

As far as I'm aware it's not really what he'll want to do if they were to disband... he'll be the Kian Egan of the band

As big of a fan, this is so true. I've always said this:

Harry will always be in the media because they're obsessed with him it seems
Louis will do anything to stay relevant and in the media... you should see his family. His sisters are begging for fame... .-.
Liam does well with music and songwriting so I can see him trying a solo career or a songwriting career but slowly fading into the background for a quiet life
Zayn will fade straight away. He does now, he's always missing from group things that aren't concerts or launches.

I find Louis pathetic. I know it's probably not his fault that he hasn't come out of the closet, he's probably been coerced into keeping it quiet, but the whole fake girlfriend thing is embarrassing and damaging for gay people around the world and I really don't think it would damage their brand at all if he was openly gay.

It's really insulting, but I guess it's not necessarily his fault. It would be his management forcing him to stay in the closet.

#50, after two days of sales. Then they did a tour of the UK. Without resorting to doing ITV pantomime reunion shows. I think it's a pretty valid point though, girl groups can return after a hiatus; boy bands aren't afforded the same luxury because they only try and appeal to young girls whose tastes change as soon as they split up.

Yes that's all good and well in the short term, but they will regret it in the long run, as all former boy band members do. A few of them seem like they have substance abuse problems and I would imagine they'll only spiral out of control once the group is over because people will immediately stop giving a **** about them.

Indeed they have Kazanne,it is a pity but then most of all the really top groups split for a time or permanently.
There isn't much more they need to or can achieve really.

Always a shame for the fans however,Groups can be annoying for this at times.

It's best to go out on top as the best band around as well as the best of all time.

I wouldn't really say they've managed either of those things. I wouldn't even put them in the top 3 British boy bands of all time - they've managed to be globally successful at the expense of putting time and effort into great songs, their material is very same-y and hasn't shown any growth or evolution of sound or style and I think pop artists should always be showing some kind of growth, musically. They just seem really tired, both as people and as an act, I think if they'd remained just a British phenomenon (like Girls Aloud for example) they could have been really exciting to follow but instead they managed to conquer America so they've not really changed the formula because it works for them.
