Statement
Channel 5 has received inquiries from viewers about the most recent series of Big Brother. In order to assist viewers, the following information is provided:
1. All voting during Big Brother is independently verified as the voting occurs and when it ends. Only those results which are independently verified are used in determining results which are broadcast as part of Big Brother.
2. Votes cast are regularly monitored to detect any unusual voting patterns or to determine whether, for instance, computer programmes have been used to implement automatic voting for particular housemates. Where there are discrepancies in voting patterns, in consultation with the independent verifier, consideration is given as to whether the votes should be included.
3. No votes were discarded because of voting irregularities in the period after lines were open for voting in the final week of the last series up until the lines were finally closed, when Helen and Ashleigh were the two remaining finalists. No voting irregularities were detected during that period.
4. When voting lines are open, they are regularly monitored, including by independent verifiers, to ensure that votes can be cast on behalf of any housemate up for voting. At all times during the period after lines were open for voting in the final week of the last series up until the lines were finally closed when Helen and Ashleigh were the two remaining finalists, all relevant lines were open and callers were able to cast votes for whichever housemate they chose. All voting lines for housemates were open for exactly the same period; the voting line for each individual housemate opened and closed at exactly the same time as the line for any other housemate facing a public vote at the same time.
5. At 9.20am on August 15, the morning of the Final of Big Brother 2014, the voting stood as follows:
Ashleigh was 8,018 votes ahead of Helen.
Helen was 9,789 votes ahead of Christopher.
Christopher was 4,945 votes ahead of Ash
Ash was 8,730 votes ahead of Chris
Chris was 11,237 votes ahead of Pav
6. At 8.55pm on August 15, immediately prior to the live broadcast of the Final of Big Brother 2014, the voting stood as follows:
Ashleigh was 7,887 votes ahead of Helen.
Helen was 12,628 votes ahead of Christopher.
Christopher was 6,319 votes ahead of Ash
Ash was 10,296 votes ahead of Chris
Chris was 13,365 votes ahead of Pav
7. At 10.03pm on August 15, when voting lines closed for the final time during the live broadcast of the Final of Big Brother 2014, the voting stood as follows:
Helen was 4,631 votes ahead of Ashleigh.
Ashleigh was 75,818 votes ahead of Christopher.
Christopher was 13,303 votes ahead of Ash
Ash was 23,108 votes ahead of Chris
Chris was 14,594 votes ahead of Pav
8. The voting lines for Pav, Chris, Ash and Christopher finally closed at different times, as each lost their place in the House. The voting lines for Helen and Ashleigh finally closed at the same time.
9. All of the votes and results mentioned in paragraphs 5, 6 and 7 were independently verified.
10. During the launch of Big Brother 2014, the viewers voted for Pauline to be given "the power" in the House. Pauline knew nothing about what reward would be given to Helen when she selected Helen for a reward. The first either Helen or Pauline or any other housemate knew about there being a "pass to the final" was when Big Brother announced to the House exactly what the reward was that Pauline had chosen Helen to receive.
11. Helen auditioned for Big Brother in the same way as all other applicants for a place in the Big Brother House. When she entered the House, Helen did not have an agent, a manager or any connection with either Northern & Shell or Richard Desmond.
12. The behaviour of all housemates is regularly monitored by Big Brother and interventions are made whenever Big Brother considers it necessary. Some interventions are informal, some are formal; some result in serious warnings. Not all of these interventions are included in the material broadcast.
13. In Helen’s case, the broadcasts twice showed her being reprimanded by Big Brother for her conduct (in relation to Danielle and Matthew). There were a number of further informal interventions with Helen about her conduct and during the course of the material broadcast Helen herself made reference to some of these, although these informal interventions were not themselves included in any broadcast. Informal interventions with other housemates, similarly, were not included in the material broadcast.
14. The Big Brother voting system remains independently verified and Big Brother is satisfied that the outcome of Big Brother 2014 was an accurate reflection of the public's decisions.

Not really. Winston's vote was organized by someone. Surely a computer program was required.

Bet it was Emma saying the vote was close wot done it :fist:
This is what I thought.
"It's neck and neck" would have probably caused a surge in Helen voters who didn't think it would be close, whereas Ashleigh voters would not have wanted to waster their time or money since they'd already voted for her.
I only voted for Ashleigh because of what Emma said, but the majority of Ashleigh fans peaked too early.

I don't believe that Helen wasn't singled out for the pass to the final, there wouldn't have been a show without her.
I don't believe that Mark wasn't delierately chosen to sort his debt out.
I don't believe that Pav or Chris poled more than Winston.
In short I don't believe anything they are saying.
Come to think of it it says 'Carlsberg' on the side of some London buses it does't mean to say that you are going to get a pint when you get on board.
In short don't believe everything you read.
Strange innit that they have had to come out with this statement.

Winston's eviction was not fixed
I listened to a programme called Couch Potatoe, the interviewer said that with the efforts of blah, blah and blah (cant remember who but it consisted of many) they got Winston out because they wanted the final to be between Helen and Ashleigh. They saw Winston as a winner. Never heard the programme before but it is interesting.

http://pictures.thisisbigbrother.com/userpics/10433/thumb_BB_HelenD.jpgChannel 5 have put a statement (http://bigbrother.channel5.com/statement) on the official Big Brother website relating to issues which have been raised about the voting process, by some fans, after Helen Wood won Big Brother 15 (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/bigbrother15-2014/news-261767/helen-is-the-winner-of-big-brother-15-.html).
Apparently, 400 complaints were sent to the TV regulator OFCOM.

It likely that C5 was getting heat from outside agencies, like OFCOM and perhaps even a few sponsors.
A very detailed response is an attempt to put the matter behind them.
I'd imagine that they are also concerned about CBB. If half their audience is too p*ssed off to vote, they lose money.
The fact that they got at least some of their official statement wrong just shows a bit of lack of professionalism at the very least. I can't imagine who wrote the statement, who checked it and let it pass - when it had a blatant error in it which throws into question their credibility.

Ashleigh would've won if the lines had been closed just a few minutes earlier. :bawling:
Maybe they waited till Helen had the most votes, they should have a set time at the lines being closed before the final and live evictions i.e. 10pm as they always say "lines will close during the show" one week it might be 9.55 the next maybe 10.05. This gives their favourites as much of a chance as possible of them being saved or in Helens' case of winning. The Matthew/Ash eviction was close wasn't it?, maybe they waited till Matthew had the most votes.

All people have to go on, when they say the winner vote was fixed, was that Ashleigh was leading the online polls. And that's not much. The online polls have been 'wrong' before.
There's no real evidence of a voting fix.
To be honest, I don't think it was the definition of a "fix". I just think that the producers heavily manipulated the final few weeks and especially days in the house to work in Helen's favour, and they made a win for her in many ways, inevitable.

Winston getting knocked out so early in the final was even more suspicious...

I suspect certain wealthy individuals get even richer every time one of these 'surprising' results are announced.
If international football matches can be rigged, so can TV shows.

Very well thought out and informative statement.
An interesting read and much appreciated.

So, Channel 5 wasn't involved in any sort of fix because Channel 5 says it wasn't involved in any sort of fix. Glad that's been cleared up :joker:.
In all seriousness though, there obviously wasn't a literal "fix", just selective editing to manipulate the audience. Which isn't really a problem, I guess. If the audience is ready and willing to be manipulated, then...
HOWEVER - I don't believe for a second that Helen didn't have an agent or manager of any kind before entering the house. Nonsense.

Yeah, it wasn't a fix in the literal sense. But definitely a fix with manipulation and editing. Helen went from the most hated to loved within a week. She seemed to get a pretty decent reception towards the end.
We should be glad of how close the voting was between her and Ashleigh though. If it was a landslide victory for Helen then I would wonder what has really been going on.
