Big Brother 2014 was least watched series ever

The last series of Big Brother UK was the least watched series to date.

The run, which lasted for 72 days and ended last Friday night, averaged a total of 1.58 million viewers every night on Channel 5.

It was down almost 300,000 viewers on the average for the 2013 series, the current most watched series on Channel 5.

And the run was down 60,000 viewers on the previous low in 2012, which went up against the London Olympics, although this year’s show did have to contend with the World Cup at some points.

Big Brother was blighted from the get go with complaints and controversies, with telly watchdog Ofcom receiving nearly 3,000 across the 3 month long show.

Because it was a very weak season.

Eh, that's not too big a drop from the 1.6 averages of 2011 and 2012. As long as next year's doesn't fall to something ridiculous like 1.2, they'll be okay

Problem is because of the fact it's in the 1m+ range, a drop of 300k is very noticeable. If it had been averaging 2m plus every year, it wouldn't have been much of an issue.

And rightly so. This better wake them up and make them realise changes need to be made.

Exactly...not diverse enough...and twists that unfairly see someone evicted without the public vote...and the winner being given a pass to the final when we all know she would have gone in the early weeks.

Underrated seriesLOL hardly. I'd argue it was overhyped in many ways for the "drama" and tention.

As someone who's watched since the first series (except for BB4), this is by a mile the worst. I heard 4 was boring but i cant attest to that. However this series was painful to get through. The winner wasnt any help and prob why most tuned out, cause they wanted her gone week 2.

The show would do better if they stopped trying to force drama into it. I can't really remember anything fun happening this series. It was just bitching constantly because they filled the house with people with big attitude problems. The people without the big attitudes were just underwhelming and overshadowed by the bitches.

I wish they'd return to the old days where they put a bunch of weirdos and normal people in the house that weren't looking to be singers or movie starts.

No way was it over hyped, the negativity on here was evident from about Week 5. This series was never given a chance as soon as everybody's favorites began to go, and I won't lie that it no ways was it one of the best series, but it's very underrated in my opinion. It was really good in some points. Oh and also, saying 'LOL' at somebody' else's opinion is rude, so you should stop that.

I'm not making excuses, this year the production team made awful mistakes, but it would of done a little better without the sporting events

Well it's a bit of a coincidence that the two least watched series' of Big Brother just so happen to clash with two of the world's biggest televised sporting events. I know there's been the World Cup/Olympics all the way through Big Brother's run on television but it's no secret that Big Brother is a lot less popular than it once was, with people who were once big fans of the show now looking down on it, so the smaller the fanbase is, the more its going to be affected by these events.

For example, the soaps are still a major part of British television and are still popular, and even though they are dented by sporting events they still manage 5 million+ viewers, even though their averages are 7/8 million a night. Big Brother averages 1.5-2 million so when it's dented and is going down to 700/800 k it seems a lot worse.

Deservedly. The manipulation was really of putting.

Ash wasn't dull.

Its sad to see how so many peoples opinion was swayed by the focus group which caused the housemates to think Ash was seen as boring.

The fact is Ash and Helen made me laugh the most. They had a great friendship and he was a very upbeat, funny guy who was refreshing to watch in a series full of bitterness.

Then again the clips uploaded to youtube showed Ashleigh in a different light to, she was actually really funny yet all we saw is the over the top scripted tasks that would change the housemates lives forever and the obvious fallout.

BB15 deserved to be the lowest rated.

I was under the impression BB12 did a lot worse but it got over 1.7? Fair play that's pretty decent.

Anyone got the officials for the last week of BB15 they should have been released today but nothing?

It was an awful bunch of housemate's. The theme had potential but all of the interfering and manipulation from Big Brother was too much.
