What did you think of school? Did you enjoy it? Did you loathe it? What?

A reason I didn't like it was probably I did get picked on a bit. I lost a lot of confidence. Going bright red and getting overly anxious.

However a good point to it is that actually it was something to do. I wish I got on with my work more and felt sorry for myself less. But at that age you are full of mixed emotions.

I enjoyed Infant/Junior School a bit more.

Hated it. Had zero confidence and my attendance was terrible because of social anxiety.

Always hear people saying their school days were their best days and it'd terrify me. Fortunately that was a load of bollox and I'm miles happier now than I was ever at school, being able to be myself and go do whatever I want to with my life.

meh i hated it.

I was never told what school was and i had never left my mum before, so my parents kind of just sent me away and I had no idea why LOL. so I spent most of kindergarten crying and then stopped when my 1st grade teacher basically told me to shut the hell up.

2nd grade I had a really strict teacher and I hated her. she gave us too much homework (looking back, i dont think she did. again, i just hated it because my mum got so impatient with me and never helped)

3rd grade and 4th grade I loved my teachers. I dont remember much of those because it was fun

5th grade I hated. I was badly bullied by some of the kids there. I was pretty much a year younger than all of them (in america, school ages are from like Jan to Dec, rather than Sep to August... im born in november so was almost always the youngest in class) I was told by some black kids that i wasn't allowed to sit near them because i was white... I had no idea what to say to that. one of the girls even asked me not to look at her LOL... looking back i imagine it's just stupid things their parents told them or group mentality. who knows. Either way it ruined my confidence

after 5th grade, I moved to the UK so never went to Middle School. I kinda wish I had though.

I went to year 6 here and wasnt really bullied. I remember getting told that the last american girl was really pretty and smart, so everyone was disappointed. I was a real tom boy and loved football, but the boys never let me play with them. Our headmaster then intruduced 'girls football wednesday' which meant no boys could play football... it was very popular

high school was awful. there was this absolute c%nt who i still hate to this day. he constantly told me i was ugly, would punch me, steal my things etc. I'm waiting for karma to eff him over. And there was bitchy girls of course too. I was never popular.

I wouldnt change any of it though. It makes me the person I am now and I'm proud of myself. I've never been happier.

[2] I was the same as you. I had no confidence at all in school. Now I have left there my confidence has grown a lot.

My school days were fine for the first 2 years - I went to an all girls school - then my school joined with a boys school and we all moved into a brand new school together and was was complete shyte ! No one knew what floor to be on , nevermind which room, then there were hoards of stupid testosterone filled schoolboys who though it was great fun grabbing girls at every opportunity ! We also had lots of teachers from the boys school and they were really sexist and rude to the girls, my chemistry teacher shouted out in front of the whole class " what do you think you are A Scrubber ! because i was cleaning the sink!! I never attended another of his lesssons and then I stopped going to school and ruined my future hopes at that point.
I am so glad things are a lot more equal for girls these days.

Agree entirely with this. Feel like a better and more understanding person for it, and able to appreciate life after school and freedom you have more than most.

Yep, same.

Also had a shocking attendance because of social anxiety. Both my parents worked all day and were never home so it was too easy for me. I'd wake at 8, put on my uniform as they were leaving, then take it straight back off and spend the morning smoking my brains out watching Sky News and, later, posting on here.

I have great nostalgic memories of the times I bunked off, oddly enough. I get nostalgic for everything. Though I hated being in school I loved walking around aimlessly on cold, grey mornings when I knew everyone else was doing maths or whatever. I educated myself and formed my own views on the world in those times by myself. I spent a year in dole oblivion after it and I've calmed way down now to this weird state of almost going back to being 15 or 16 again where I didn't care what anyone thought and was more than happy to stay in playing computer games all day.

Don't get me wrong I have a job and a social life and stuff I'm just less inclined to try and live up to this idea of myself in my head anymore. I'm sitting in my pants playing Final Fantasy all day. I haven't had someone in this bed in ****ing weeks. But I feel like I got most of it out of my system and that it was a phase and I was never really that person anyway.

Uni was my just desserts where I came out of my shell, started going out every night and had my window of sex with people way out of my league.

I miss it already and I've only just left :(

I wouldn't change a thing about my school days and I'm glad I met the people I did. I totally get what people mean about having anxiety around others, sometimes I felt like I couldn't be myself around a few people. The good thing about me is that I never changed for anybody, but I felt like certain people (even a few in my friendship group) didn't like how much of an individual I was.

I didn't like how reluctant I was to get to know teachers on a friendship level. Especially at sixth form it felt like some people had gained a special bond with specific teachers, but I still felt like a pupil to them. I think a few of them felt like I was cold, but in reality it was because I found it weird speaking to them as if I was an adult, so ultimately it was my fault but I just didn't like growing up.

It's weird how my confidence has been knocked a little as I've grown up, especially because as a child I could be seen more of a target (being gay is obviously something young kids pick up on, and it was one of those cases where they knew before me). But thankfully, I've never been bullied, and there's nobody at school I REALLY hate or hated. There were a few people who really got on my nerves in the year above, but luckily I had even more support from people in other years.

I'm just happy that I never gave a **** about people who were so negative, and I never backed down from my own thoughts even with teachers/friends/whoever. The positives from my school life definitely outweigh the negatives.

Great! Always had a group of friends and was pretty well known. Although I also felt alone at times. In American High School I also was friends with different groups of people but still had a core group. One thing people compliment me on and I appreciate is "being able to get along with anyone". If I choose to.

Also I'm smart and got awards and stuff. Not very athletic but did track and field, and volleyball and was decent.

I'm in school and this is literally me.

I loved it, I was alot more outgoing and sociable than I am now. Had a great group of friends, was never bullied or anything just alot of "banter", great fun.

I think the worst part is losing touch with friends once you leave and go off to uni and stuff, it's odd. Out of my group of mates of about 12 in school I only see 1 of them these days. I wish I made more of an effort after leaving. But yeah, "best days of my life".

I'm in school and it's a partayyy every day.

I've lost quite a fair bit of confidence but I'll hopefully gain this back now I'm doing Drama, I love school so much:flutter:

(Hope that doesn't sound like I'm bragging, I've read through this thread and all of you are so brave! :()

Bullied. Not very enjoyable; when given the opportunity to go to college or stay on at sixth form I left. But lost contact with a lot of good friends. such is life

Bullied to within an inch of my life by girls who now struggle to get checkout jobs. I was the skinny Jew with the As and A*s so it was always going to happen. Makes me smile at how cruel life has been to the girls who bullied me.

School was great. Suffered exclusions in my final two years which wasn't a problem in my final year as I was old enough to deal with it but in my penultimate year I was still naive and it got to me a lot. However, I still had friends and I was otherwise well liked. I miss school.

The Vengeful Jew. Insert part of England you're from martial arts epic. Probably going through my head only because I have Fearless on in the background.

I love the evil Jew mode.

Not bad.

I hated it for the first two years of high school because I didn't know anyone but then settled in and just got on with it. Really didn't mind it by the end.

Then started off loving Lower Sixth and detested Upper Sixth. It was a struggle to drag myself out of bed to go in that year as I hated it so much.

They were okay. I was a very shy, introverted child and it took me a while to overcome that but I fell in with a good crowd immediately and never had any problems with bullying or bad grades, I just got on with it, did well, was well liked within my group of friends and enjoyed it. For a while I felt very lonely (I would say I only really became confident and outgoing by the time I was 15-16 years old) but that was on me, nobody was causing that.

Loved it, so much. High school was the best time of my life by far. Admitedly, back in the day I was a part of the so-called "cool-group" and I was unnecessarily mean to people (especially around 8th-10th grade) but then found a solid group of bros mid 10th grade and just had an absolute blast. I aced my classes, was on the varsity basketball team, was the lead in my school play and had great friends. It was the biggest blast. Oh how I miss high school!

They were nice enough, I don't think I realized the importance of them while I was there, so apart from a few subjects I never tried that hard. And I think school is meant to prepare you for life, but my head was in the clouds when I left.

School for me was a waste of time, i had parents who didn't really care less, so i basically had a free reign.

I went to school for years 7 and 8 but by year 9 i was missing a lot of school, i used to get my mark then just walk out of school, all the teachers thought i were there when really i was on the park bandstand drinking cheap cider:laugh:

I remember being chased by the police on the park, we all just ran into a wooded area!

We used to go to the cinema and watch movies or shopping, sometimes i would visit my great grandma and sit with her for the day.

By the time GCSE's came i was entered for just 4 of them and even with non attendance i got a C in English:shocked:

I was popular in school but it just wasn't for me, that's why i'm in college now and loving it!

My kids go to school every day though and i'm a good parent who sets boundaries and makes sure they do their homework, i won't let them go down my route! Even though it was fun for me, it's not a life for my kids.

Meh it was alright, I got kind of fed up of it towards my last couple of years though. My 3 best friends are girls I was friends with in school

I feel like school doesn't really prepare you for anything, looking back. I finished school in 2009 and I think it's ridiculous that you aren't even slightly prepared to deal with handling personal finances which is far more useful than some of the nonsense school taught you. If I could trade in all the "drugs are bad!!!!" DVDs for someone telling me how to budget, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I enjoyed school. Not lessons so much as just messing about all day. I went to an all girls private school which was hard for some of the girls who left and had no clue how to interact with boys as they'd had no contact with them. Wasn't a big deal for me as I had the boys school most popular boy as my brother so everyone knew me as his kid sister. I was also really sporty and netball and rounders captain so never had any problems with anyone. I left after 5th year with the intention of going to college but got into trouble over the summer break and my parents sent me back to 6th form at school as punishment and I lasted 6 weeks before I just walked out and didn't go back. Lost touch with loads of people but met up with a lot over the years at reunions and now have loads of school friends who I see regularly.

I would never send my son to a private school though (I went on a free scholarship and so never had quite the "right" clothes or shoes but because I was popular and had a popular brother and a mean left hook I got away with it). Private schools are breeding grounds for nasty bullies who hide behind their parents money and end up getting away with it,

Z

I'd never send any kids of mine to a private school either. I just think they're a waste of money, I'd rather save the money up and put it towards a first flat for my kids that some people would rather spend on an education, personally.

School really doesn't teach anything useful life skills wise. Just education you'll never really use
