A few sources reporting this now but waiting on official confirmation

If this is true it's a major breakthrough on UK television, I don't know of any other major shows that have hosted free televotes. This is standard in the states but this really would be huge and extremely surprising if true :o

Why on Earth would they do it for free, isn't Simon a money hoarder?

He wants better winners so free votes means more likely to get results from the younger audiences now.

I was thinking yes I can save my fav a lot more now but after seeing this post urge a basic boy band will probably get loads of votes

A free televote makes the whole thing wide open though because anyone can vote just as much as teenage girls can
I will be astounded and amazed if this turns out to be true

At least it stops the Sam Bailey type acts from doing so well.

It would surprise me if this was the case.
I'm not sure if I want this or not, it'd make an over-rated act win..
Does this mean they can rig the vote to what they want with no complaints of people having spent money voting?
Is it one vote per app? That's a great idea if so!

I assume there will be a voting limit so the system isn't abused. But this is a good move as it promotes more voting, and it makes a load of sense if they're making £1 million for 30 seconds of adverts. £5 million made from voting across a series is nothing when they can make more than that per episode in advertising!

Reports on this still continuing but the free phone voting part seems to have been dropped and it's now free app voting only.
The X Factor to use free voting through new phone app
X Factor viewers will be able to vote for free for the first time in the latest series.
An app will allow fans to back their favourite acts once the show, which returns this weekend, reaches the live shows stage.
People with tablets and smartphones can download the app for free.
Viewers will be able to cast up to five votes whenever the polls are open and they can back one contestant or a combination.
It is the first time voting for contestants has been available free of charge since the ITV show launched in 2004.
Each vote cast on a BT landline or a mobile phone cost 35p during previous series.
Ann Cook, from ITV, said: "Having successfully launched in-app voting for The X Factor last year, we know there's a growing appetite for viewers to engage with the show via a digital platform.
"The new initiative to offer in-app voting for free centres around our ambition to give viewers new and exciting ways to interact with our shows, and explore how a mixed economy of free and paid voting drives interactive behaviour."
Kat Hebden, of FremantleMedia UK Interactive, which co-produces the show with Syco Entertainment, said: "The introduction of free in-app voting on The X Factor will be a real game changer in terms of how people interact with the show and we're looking forward to a fantastic series."
Mark Brittain, of Syco, said: "We are constantly looking to innovate around the show.
"Giving the viewers the ability to vote free through the app will allow viewers, we believe, an even greater opportunity to interact with their favourite show and, of course, play the hugely important role in deciding the ultimate winner of the series."

I swear to god if this is another iOS-exclusive service I will cut a bitch :fist:
did big brother do free voting?
They did polls which were free which is all that is said in that article, that there will be polls within the app.

BGT was Android friendly so hopefully since X-Factor is managed and created by the same company the XF app will be the same.
