James wasn't really though in this clip...as much as I love Gary, he was the one winding things up here and then James got a bit ratty in return. He isnt caring though, he makes fun of Gary behind his back after supposedly being the knight in shining armour. As Audley said, he is trying to keep in with the younger element of the house.

On this occasion Gary was telling him Stephanie said other Hm's hated him(i think that is what she said) and James just told him a couple of things that were annoying people but he did it in a helpful way rather than his usual talking down to him and Gary took it all on board.
