View Full Version : Do you think hm would be kinder if he were younger and prettier?

Stephanie seems to get away with a lot because she is sweet looking. If Gary was exactly the same but was younger and more attractive, do you he would have been better treated in the house?

That is a hard one tbh as he is established as to who he is. This is the person we have come to respect. Sam was deaf and he was ignored until the end and then he showed his true colours against Dexter, I personally couldnt stand the bloke, he went under the radar for so long and then.....wow. He should never have won and the HMs of that series didnt seem to have the patience to tolerate him. He was young and quite good looking.

The difference with Gary is, he hasnt really stayed under the radar....lol....bless his cotton sox. The others do not have the compassion, patience or tolerance of him and possibly, yes it is his age factor as well. Ageism, disabilityism in their full play with others who deem themself the pride of our English Society. Sadly, being a Brit myself, I believe that as usual the Brits let themselves down good and proper. I have plenty of time for Gary and Frenchie but not the other two USA idiots in there.

Totally agree about both Dexter/Sam & Gary
It truly makes me cringe when the other HM's shout at him or roll their eyes to him. Even if you do not like a person at least be understanding enough to help them & be polite.
If one of the girls had the hearing problem I really believe they would be treated with much more respect & compassion.

Possibly.

I was thinking last night, imagine if it was Gary who had peed in the pool. The whole house would have been going totally off it with him..hell they apparently were all talking about him not having a shower and IMO peeing in the communal pool is a lot more of a hygiene problem than not showering for a few days. But its just laughed off because its Lauren...

I dont think his looks come into it, its his stupid stories of 23891 angels following him, his 2 death experiences and the vast knowledge he learnt in the seconds he was "dead" his sanctimonious attitude ,the way he eats and leaves food around his mouth :yuk: Lots of things, but not looks

Interesting topic. I think it probably does have something to do with it. Him being male is probably also a factor, I think they'd be treating an older lady with hearing problems with much more respect than they are Gary.

Possibly.

That's a VERY good point and totally true.

If Gary had done that - the whole episode would have been about them arguing with him over it. It would have been a major storm.

But not young, pretty Lauren oh no...

So what does that tell you !

Of course... if Gary was younger and "hot" no way would they speak to him like he's a child with special educational needs. And yes, had he peed in the pool there would have been hell on. They're almost exclusively puddle-shallow.

I agree with all points apart from the one in bold. Sure, Americans tend not to do well on BB, but I don't think that's anything to do with Gary's lack of popularity in the house. Two of the housemates that argue with him most are American (Leslie and Stephanie), and the British people in the house are friendly with some of the Americans.

Also, Gary is the favourite to win I think, so clearly him being from America doesn't bother the British public much :)

We need to remember that the BB edits tend to show things that will cause controversy, therefore they will show the HM's not being nice to Gary rather than the opposite. We have seen nice things too, like David bringing him the ice pack and offering to help; James helping him out of the shower and saying to tell him when he's going to shower again because he doesn't want him going in on his own because it's slippery; Hm's making him tea and sitting chatting quite amiably. It's not all bad.

They are impatient with him quite often, yes, and that isn't nice to watch, but I'm pretty sure that there are plenty more helpful moments too because they can show so little...but they want to make people indignant and FEEL invested emotionally.
I would find it hard to believe that all of the HM's are unhelpful and heartless. The law of averages would just negate that, even if most of them have egos of elephantine proportions, including Gary himself.

then take him aside and tell him one to one, calmly and politely. not try to group bully him shouting, mocking and threaten to hit him as james did (not to his face obviously)

If they tried to tell him he would just say he was touched by genius and brilliance, and has knowledge they don't have (but which he is keeping to himself.) That's how he got out of the argument with Dee, and it worked. She gave up and took herself off :hehe:

And Lauren piddles in the pool and George sucks water into into mouth because she said she peed. After that I'd rather Gary made me a bacon sandwich than George. However if you were round your 70year old grannies with a bunch of mates would you sit around and expect her to cook and clean for you all?

Gary does have a lot of 'presence' but I think a lot of people are forgetting he is elderly now.

That's a bit patronizing. My goodness, 70 isn't that old these days. He's not exactly sitting in a chair drooling with a rug over his knees....the man has plenty of energy and spark and he looks as capable of doing everyday things as the next person. He may not be able to run about and do press ups, but his limbs and hands are in working order. He's 70, not 90.

That doesn't mean younger people shouldn't have some consideration. My mother is 70 and my kids very considerate towards her.

Of course they should, absolutely. We were all taught that and teach our own kids to do the same.
But consideration for others is good at any age so Gary should clean the toilet after himself, help out in the kitchen now and then, make someone a cuppa etc. Little things can mean a lot.

Gary is as fit as a fiddle, and the ladies in there just can't express their love for him.

Being serious yes it probably would've been better for him if he was younger and more attractive in the house.
