He is Gary, with previous memories, doesn't mean he is still a Roman. So there is nothing to deal with. He doesn't have a chariot or a sword with him

I'd probably find him fascinating compared to the rest of the vacuous, shallow, self-satisfied knobs... with a couple of exceptions.

I could learn a lot from him so would like to be around him. The people in the house who don't give him the time of day are absolute gorps for not realising that.
My only issue would be his toilet habits :yuk: maybe he could teach me not to care?

You are putting me off him, tbh. (But you're not the only one). I prefer flawed human beings whose faults are acknowledged by others.
Gary is always in the right...always in the right....always in the right....always in the right...and it's boring as hell to read.

he is flawed youve missed the point. he has 100s of flaws we all do, but gary recognising he has 100s of flaws and looks to work on them and takes criticism. the others do nothing of the sort

I'd love to hang out with him.
I'm glad someone of his age, of his experience and of his uniqueness has got a platform on British TV - there are too many predictable, boring, self-centred talentless sheep on TV these days and hardly any rugged wild old souls like Gary
He isn't always in the right though jet, there are plenty of posts saying that.
There isn't though. Is there even one thread that deals with something negative about Gary? I honestly see very few posts that admit Gary is at fault for anything. I love the guy because he drives people round the bend - just as he did in the celeb apprentice usa - but now he's portrayed as a pitiful figure who nobody cares about or some sort of spiritual guru whose every word should be hung onto as if he has the key to the mystery of life. All way OTT for me.

You gave about 20 glowing examples of what you see as his good points. Give me 20 of his flaws.

Gary is far from pitiful. In the real world he had been described by his psychiatrist as being "without filters". We have seen little of that because either he (or his medication!) is reining it in.
A dear old sweetie? I think not - and nor do those who have to actually share living space with him.
Problem is there are too many fans of his films willing to overlook the fact that his fellow housemates find him a bit of a pain.
Yes, James is an idiot for constantly trying to get someone aged 70 and set on his ways to change his ways. It ain't gonna happen.
But that doesn't Gary a lovable dear man.

See I notice you keep saying this when you have nothing really to back it up with..
One or two of them have complained about him yes, like say leslie saying he hasn't cooked or cleaned etc but then past housemates have been forgiven for things like that due to age/illnesses and so on, the others are just taking the easy way out and following the pack, for example...
Dee during the task using his hearing problems as an excuse, saying she was 'sick repeating herself'
Dee whilst nominating, done the same thing.
George whilst nominating him used the interrupting and again the hearing thing as an excuse.
This doesn't make someone unbearable to live with, it's the easy way out for them.

Give me examples of when he was wrong in the house, in your opinion.
I dunno why I should have to give a list to "prove" I have a balanced opinion of Gary  but on the forum I have accepted that he can be rude at times. He does have a weird thing where he doesn't like to be interrupted but will quite often interrupt others. We've also seen him do the "ssh" thing a few times that hms seem to hate. He can be quite forceful with his opinions, like the CGI thing, he could have just dropped it but had to keep on at Leslie that it was Graphics, which was wrong anyway! When Leslie mentioned his toilet habits I could have vommed, eww. That's definitely disrespectful of his housemates. His behaviour when David offered to give him the ice pack was a little weird, but I don't think it was "wrong" actually, just too abrupt.
I have seen other FMs who are fans of Gary admit these faults too, and yes, there are always some people who don't accept that their fave is ever in the wrong. I think it's just because Gary is a forum fave and has a lot of airtime so a lot of forum discussion that it seems that nobody accepts Gary's flaws. I've also seen fans of other hms who don't seem to accept they're ever in the wrong or that Gary's ever in the right and I agree it's dead frustrating.
In a post above you said "I prefer flawed human beings whose faults are acknowledged by others", and one of the great things about Gary is that he does acknowledge his flaws in discussions and agrees to work on them.

We see about 5% of what goes on.
You have to ask yourself why would the housemates not like Gary to the extent that he gets 8 nominations.
James, who attracts much hate on internet forums, got no nominations.
It must be a bitter pill to swallow for web warriors who just blindly like or dislike and cannot pick up on the nuances.
I could almost guarantee that most of Gary's fanclub on here would nominate him for eviction if they were actually stuck in the BB house, eating, sleeping and sharing washing and toilet facilities with him. ;)

Gary got 8 and Leslie got what 5? is he a nightmare to live with too then? is he unbearable in the house?
Or is it the fact that the housemates are taking the easy way out, going for the easy option and jumping on the bandwagon.
Surely if he was this awful housemate that was completely loathed by everyone else then he would have 12 nominations, not 8?
And James got no nominations because the housemates can't see what he is like behind other peoples backs, they can't see how nasty he can be at times but we can.

Speaking of nuances, don't you think there are more to nominations than people genuinely picking the two they dislike most? Especially face to face nominations. Examples:
- housemates could be too scared to nominate James if they find him intimidating... Or want to avoid a boring lecture
- James is tied to more people in the house whereas Gary has no strong friendships, so it is easier to nominate without backlash
- Gary is a popular housemate, therefore a rival
- Nominating a more obvious target who lots of people will nominate means they're less likely to be in the firing line from that person next week.
I'm not saying any of these are reasons that I believe affected nominations, and just picked Gary and James as easy examples. I'm just highlighting that nominations aren't as simple as picking who they like least.

I'm a fan because he entertains me. IMO he's a true eccentric, smart as hell and a real wind up merchant. Imo he has no social skills (or pretends not to) which amuses me, he doesn't give a hoot what anyone thinks but pretends he does while laughing to himself and he drives people mad. I like to observe his manipulations and the effect he has on other people and how they deal with it. If he got voted out, I think I'd lose interest.
Now if I had to live with him myself -- no thanks!

I didn't see 1 hm that was surprised that Gary was saved first. The fact is that it is a game, and they believe Gary is going to win, and so they treat him the way they do, to try and punish him for that. Not one of them knows how to deal with him properly.
In a normal environment he would be treated as an oddball. People would have fun, and enjoy his company for what it is. If any single one of them was confident in their own self worth they would be firm friends with him. As it is, they are all so incredibly shallow individuals, they are running scared.

What we are seeing is enough. Gary is constantly attacked about rude behaviour listens and thanks them, when he hasnt actually been rude. Then they totally disregard his attempts to have his side of the conversation and walk off asap. I've said on another thread his toilet habits don't sound great. The point is that is no reason to vilify him at every opportunity as the housemates are doing. People are responding to their behaviour because it is far worse and far ruder than anything we see from him. I am not seeing him call anyone names or tell them how to behave. He doesnt made snide comments about them when they walk past or call them animals and 'pets'.
When David came out he wasn't quite bright enough to catch on completely but when he mentioned Gary all he could say about his apparent terrible behaviour is that he didint like having to repeat himself and even he said that sounds bad.
Rather than telling people they need to justify their opinions for supporting Gary why don't the anti gary brigade give us some word for word encounters of when Gary said something rude, nasty or vindictive to any of them. I'm not talking about saying 'oh he was rude to david or dee' or whatever. I'm talking about word for word encounters where he says something nasty.
To me hm don't like him because he is somewhat deaf and comes over as a little eccentric and his hygieme is a little off which could easily be because he is used to auto flushing toilets and being a bit unsteady in the shower like many older or disabled people. They have escalated as a pack to point where he is the scapegoat for everything and they think they can say what they like to him. It unacceptable and uncomfortable to watch.
