A family's pit bull is being called a hero for dragging a little boy to safety after he was attacked by a swarm of bees near his Oregon home.

Eight-year-old Jesse-Cole Shaver was exploring a creek with a group of kids from his apartment complex when one of them stepped into a rotten log, unleashing a swarm of been that had nested inside.

Jesse-Cole was stung more than 20 times and was unable to climb back up the hill to safety - that's when the family pit bull Hades came to the rescue.

"Hades saw me and came and she dragged me up to the grass and then stopped and let me crawl on her back and then took me to mom," Jesse-Cole said.

Jesse-Cole's sister Jasmine was also stung in what could have been a deadly attack because she is allergic to bees.

"It felt like a bunch of needles went into my skin, and I didn't know what was going on until the girl started yelling, 'Bees," she said.

The kids's mother says even at the hospital, doctors were still pulling bees out of their hair. But she thanks Hades for helping out.

"A couple of these kids could have got really sick or died, I'm sure of it," she said.

Hades also suffered a few stings, but everyone is home and doing fine.

Don't usually post news stories but I thought I would considering our press only ever publishes negative ones on pitbulls

Great thing to happen, showing the loyalty of the dog and its courage in a positive way too.

In smaller ways this is what goes on with near all dogs which are treated properly,a refreshing bit of news as to Pitbulls for change.
Glad everything turned out okay too.

These dogs usually get such a bad press... what a lovely story. It reinforces the idea that there are no bad dog, just bad owners.

Awesome. The media can now go and do one. It's not the breed, it's the owner. Here is a perfect example of how loyal and brave these dogs are, saving a child's life. No aggression here!

Pit bulls are actually very good natured naturally, unfortunately they have a reputation for doing harm, so they are bought be people who want them to be aggressive, train them in that manner, and so they become a self fulfilling prophesy and end up doing harm... Furthering the reputation. Very sad, really. They actually don't have as bad a reputation in other countries and are often bought as family pets. It's just the lovely UK.

Saying a dog type is dangerous is similar to saying a race of human is dangerous

....that said Jack Russel's and The Irish are quite pugnacious
