High street retailer Zara has pulled a striped shirt featuring a yellow star on the front on Wednesday after social media users likened it to the uniform worn by Jewish prisoners in concentration camps during the second world war.
The striped “sheriff” T-shirt, aimed at children aged three months to three years, drew criticism for a design which featured white and blue stripes and a six-pointed yellow star on the front. The star itself had the word “sheriff” written across it, which was not completely clear in the zoomed-out images on the Spanish chain’s website.
But from first glance, many people felt the shirt bore too close a resemblance to the striped uniform and yellow star Jewish prisoners were forced to wear during the Holocaust.

What were the designers thinking!?

Other than the star they have no resemblance. The stripes are not even in the same direction for God's sake. Some people have too much time on their hands to moan about ****.

It's news though. Serious Debates & News

It wasn't intentional, fair play to them for removing them at a considerable loss to them to protect the feeling of those it could have upset though.

Looks nothing like it apart from having a star on it.
..they could just change the star to something else and leave it on the shelf ....
Horizontal stripes are a big no no, they make you look fat

lol... they are for age 3 months to 3 years. I'm pretty sure at that age, nobody cares about looking fat.

Well I hope you and your concentration camp outfit wearing chubby baby don't win at the toddler pageant :hmph:

Well, I never thought I would see someone try to recreate what people wore in the concentration camps in WWII and why they would try to make it trendy is beyond me. This is absolutely disgusting. I am sick to my stomach. As a Jew, this is incredibly offensive. Who the hell would ever think this is cute and fashionable? I used to like Zara, but after this I am never shopping there again. **** Zara this is utterly disgusting.
24,000 notes on tumblr... LOL

Jezuz... what a strange post.
I'm amazed that these pyjamas got as far as they did without someone saying, hang on... doesn't anyone see a small design fault here?

i can see them looking similar, but I honestly don't think it was done intentionally...
I can't see someone being like, 'this is what millions of people wore when they died!!!! lets make them into pyjamas to piss people off!!!!!11'
more of an ignorant error IMO

I don't think for a minute there was any intent. But I have relatives still living who were in the camps, in the scheme of things it wasn't that long ago. Yet it seems it's being forgotten. I think that's sad... and dangerous.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but when I saw that picture of the shirt at the top I figured where it was going. Surely at least someone would have pulled the design team aside and had a word?

I totally agree with you... It's a shame really
I posted the tumblr thing because they take offence to anything on that website... I didn't think it was funny how it was related to the concentration camps!

You think the design team would have noticed it looks nothing like a sheriffs outfit too...
