View Full Version : Saddam Hussein sentenced to death
Saddam Hussein has been convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging.
The former Iraqi leader was convicted over the killing of 148 people in the mainly Shia town of Dujail following an assassination attempt on him in 1982.
His half-brother Barzan al-Tikriti and Iraq's former chief judge Awad Hamed al-Bandar were also sentenced to death.
Former Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan got life in jail and three others received 15-year prison terms.
Another co-defendant, Baath party official Mohammed Azawi Ali, was acquitted.
Saddam Hussein and his co-defendants will be given the right to appeal, but that is expected to take only a few weeks and to end in failure for the defendants.

I don't think it will be too soon because he's been given time to appeal against his sentence.

In Iraq, the law states after a death sentence you have a month to appeal.
But Saddam has a mountain of evidence against him, if he appeals - I doubt it will get him anywhere

Haha I know. He wants to lesser his sentence so that he gets death by firing squad instead of hanging. He claims that death by firing squad is a more heroic way of dying.
Sorry Saddam, but no matter which way you look at it - you'll never be a hero  The West has owned you.

I reckon they should put him on top of a VERY high building and just push him off
..No actually that would be a quick death do they should either hang him, burn him alive or put him in a giant pot of boiling water!!!

I think hanging is just plain wrong, seriously.
There are many more ways to excact the penalty,Lethal injection,or even a firing squad is better than hanging.

Oh he's got it easy  He's been let off lightly.
Optionally - He could be mutilated in various forms? Stoned in public? We could systematically destroy each member of his family, mutilating, torturing....
Wait... wait... thats what HE DID.
So hanging is getting off lightly.
I'm (not really) sorry (but I respect your opinion) - but I leave all my morals behind when it becomes to pathetic little tyrants like that little piece of scum. It might be wrong, but I don't really care.

No i never really agree with being sentenced to death but..... this thing (not man no human can be that evil) deserves everything coming to him
I just hope hes men dont cause more violence
Pipergun
06-11-2006, 07:38 PM
I'm not one for violence, or an eye for an eye. But he deserves all the prolonged agony and torture that's thrown at him.
It's as simple as. The sad thing is, it doesn't bring back the 148 people that he killed.
The think that gets me though, is why were doing something about Saddam, cause America and ourselves can benefit e.g. Oil, but we don't seem to give a toss about Mugabe etc, who's blatantly letting the black Zimbabweans evict, torture and kill countless white farmers. :conf:
Stinks of injustice, methinks.
Lauren
06-11-2006, 07:40 PM
I agree Pipergun. Our Government are almost as corrupt as other regimes across the world. There's numerous tyrants out there (Mugabe being one of them) that are blatently as bad - if not worse than Saddam but they don't get "airtime" because whats in it for us?
I agree about Mugabe but the wars cost a hell of a lot for getting oil.
Pipergun
06-11-2006, 07:45 PM
I guess I'm being cynical about the oil... we'll never know for sure.
Still, I agree with Lauren, Bin Laden and Saddam hog so much of the limelight, when there's equally as bad, if not worse people out there not being dealt with so swiftly.
E.g. Putin and those "suspicious" Russian deaths, and the North Korean leader.
Did you know that in North Korea they're shot if they even own a computer!?

And isn't it strange that on the Chinese Google if you type in "Tiananmen Square" Nothing much comes up about how the Chinese Government killed up to around 3000 Chinese civilians? :puzzled: I don't see the US/UK "heroes" doing much about that.
Why aren't we invading Congo and sorting out the regimes there?
Maybe I'm cynical, but I can't see the US/UK reaping much monetary benefits from invading Congo. But invading Iraq? Ooh, lots of oil!
I'm bitter and twisted, and VERY cynical.
