Am I supposed to be thrilled about this? I'm American and I really don't get the whole "oh we're obligated to root for this housemate just because they're American" thing. Like, I don't feel represented by Gary and him being American really doesn't change how I feel about him.

I guess it's an achievement because the British Public very rarely warms to American contestants, due to the fact they are normally louder and more eccentric. It shows how in a very literal sense how exceptional Gary was, that he managed to win over a usually very hostile voting public.

Lets be honest, the only ones that matter are X Factor, Big Brother, I'm a Celeb, Strictly and Apprentice.
Has an American ever won any of those besides Gary? I don't watch Strictly or Apprentice
