of course many items are sold at 1000

So until they change that
its no major threat to Amazon or Ebay.

[The Chinese e-marketplace Alibaba will set the price for its New York flotation later on Thursday in what is expected to become a record sale.
The move follows a fortnight of roadshows for potential investors across the globe - presentations that drew huge interest and helped Alibaba's founder shift the price range higher ahead of Friday's market debut.]

Most of the crap that ebay and Amazon sell is from Alibaba so no they arent a threat they are Alibaba's children they rely on Alibaba for a lot of their listings that generate them revenue.
Alibaba are wholesale suppliers not retailers they dont need to change they are massive.

I know someone who bought an ipad on there for £35.
