t.A.T.u singer Yulia Volkova has claimed that she would "condemn" her son if she discovered he was gay.*

The star - who rose to fame after kissing her bandmate Lena Katina in the music video for 'All The Things She Said' - explained that she thinks "a man has no right to be a "f*g".

During an interview on Russian TV, the presenter asked her: "Will you condemn your son, if he is gay?"

According to a translation provided on YouTube video description, she replied: "Yes, I would condemn him, because I believe that a real man must be a real man.

"God created man for procreation, it is the nature. The man for me is the support, the strength of... I won't accept a gay son."

She added that her views only relate to a gay son, and not a gay daughter, as she thinks lesbian couples look "much nicer".

"I think for men it's a bad freedom," she said. "In our time, there is a very large number of frivolous girls (and a man can be with a large number of these girls). This is freedom for men.

"And a man has no right to be a f*g. Two girls together - not the same thing as the two men together. It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing."

She continued: "But I want to say that I'm not against gays, I just want my son to be a real man, not a f*g.

"I have many gay friends. I believe that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay is a little better than the rest."

t.A.T.u's 2002 music video for 'All The Things She Said' caused controversy because of the kiss. The pair later confirmed that they were not gay in real life.

However, she blatantly promoted homosexuality whilst she was at her prime with Lena, which obviously shows would she have the guts to say **** you to the whole 'homophobic Russia' issue. And furthermore it shows that what she said was genuinely her thoughts since she condemned gay men, but went on to say that it was okay for gay women to be with each other? Not to mention the fact that her TATU partner wasn't afraid to go against the 'Russian' norm and say it was ok to be gay...so that can't be used as an excuse imo.

I'm disgusted and disappointed by what she said. She's entitled to her opinion but as an enormous fan of hers I'm so angry by her comments. Thank god for Lena tbh, at least I can still love her.

I've seen you get a bit of stick for this but I partly agree with what you say. I wouldn't say it on the topic itself because I don't want it closed through arguments but I have always seen it as a bit distasteful in my own opinion. But I just added that to back you up, I have no desire to open up a can of worms so that's that on that issue as far as I'm concerned.

That being said for the last bit I am pretty confident that this forum will have a disproportionate amount of homosexual males on it so homophobia will be a big issue here and I accept that, I have no problem with that. Homophobia needs stamping out anyway so it benefits us all.
