Time Flies/Tempus Fugit

Time flies are jungle indigenous insects that have lived in jungles for the humid heat and damp conditions, for millenniums.

Bright orange in colour with neon yellow stripes, these beautiful insects are natures time piece, for every hour on the dot, out they some from their latest hiding spot, to relocate to another part of the jungle so they can feed on the sweetest of leaf sap, with their bright colours and their distinctive sound, jungle dwellers would be able to count on these little beauties in order to keep steady time, a literal creature comfort on behalf of mother nature herself.

If exposed to a different climate for long periods of time, these creatures colours will fade and eventually, they will be lost.

Living in the jungle you're bound to experience some torrential downpours once in a while, well thanks to millions of years of adaptation, the Time Flies have developed water proof wings, of sleek, silver mastery.

So no matter how hard it pours, these little treasures could always be counted on, night and day.

MY COMMENT: After your fabulous work yesterday, I'm quite disappointed. I'm not sure you realized that the other camps were putting a lot of detail into their creepy crawlie, but as the only camp with all 4 members working on it, I did expect more. Which is a shame, obviously, because you've cost yourselves the win.

Munición

With 10,000,000 insects in the world, the munición is by far one of the deadliest. The word munición itself is Spanish for bullet: of which the insect's shape resembles. With six inches separating the hind legs from the 'spearhead', the munición stores its venom in a thin vein, near invisible to the naked eye. With a purity similar to that of cocaine, the venom is enough go paralyse in minutes: with no chance of survival unless an antidote is administered instantaneously.

The munición's first appearance in the outback can be traced back to the 1961 Western Australian bushfires, although it is evident they were in existence long before then. With a tendency to live in extreme climates, the munición were one of few critters to survive the bushfire: the volatile connotations of fire only serving to enhance their link to 'bullets'. They're quick, dangerous and deadly.

However deadly they may be to humans, the munición's serve a crucial purpose in the jungle. At the end of each foot (there are several hundred) is a 'bud' which contains a preservative that many plants in the bush need to survive. They work to save the environment and, although deadly, they only attack if they're disturbed.

MY COMMENT: Lovely detail, and a great way to pick yourselves up from yesterday. I liked as you worked together as a camp and decided to do your separate ones and then voted which one you wanted to do. I think both Le Freak and Pothuthic's could have got you the second place, but Le Freak, really good job on this. It was a nice to hear Marsh and Pothuthic's thoughts, I wish Conzors had PM'ed me though about him not being available so I could have done what I did for RobInnes for him!

Uses: Its venom is used by locals as an alternative and primitive anaesthetic, and it's been praised for ridding villages of other parasites like wasps, ticks and fleas.
Conservation Status: Near Threatened (NT)

Snakes and centipedes have been enemies for many centuries. Both prey on the other, despite the dangers of each other’s venom and temperament. Snakes however are slightly more limited in what they can do to defend themselves than centipedes; with no sight and no legs (although, they can move very quickly,) they can sometimes find themselves out maneuvered by the centipedes. Centipedes, whilst having strong fangs and a powerful venom, haven’t got the snake’s primal instincts when it comes to striking prey. They use their antennas to detect prey, whilst charging about like a multi-legged express train. And then the centipede began to evolve...and a certain species was born that is more than a match for it’s arch-enemy: The OranguFanged Centipede.

A species that lives exclusively in the Australian Jungle - necessary because of its cold-blooded nature requiring an incredibly humid climate - fanged centipedes have adapted their bodies to be more like the snakes. With multiple orange legs sticking out of the side of their bodies, they have fattened up and have become more like a snake. A forked tongue protrudes from their mouth, adapting the snake’s skill for tasting the air around it to hunt it’s prey: snakes. And at the top of their mouth, two huge venomous fangs which come out when the centipede strikes.

There are different sizes and species of the Fanged centipede – and they vary in terms of how venomous they are. On the rear end of the centipede is a large dot. While most aren’t very dangerous to humans, there are some species that have the dot coloured in a bright red. These are the most venomous and aggressive species. They fear nothing and will explore any area they come across in the hunt for their prey – including beds, hammocks and dunnies. If they feel threatened, they will strike incessantly until they feel the threat has either been disposed of or scared off.

The localised orangufanged variety differs from the original genus in that it secretes a venom known as 'truthtea' to warn off prey, which it stores in a duct in the lower half of its abdomen. Victims of the venom have been known to display symptoms such as paralysis, diarrhoea and occasional wailings of 'LMAOOOOOOOOOO DEAD'.

Although rarer than the fanged centipede, its preserved status in the Australian jungle has made it something of a local legend and mascot.
Natives have remarked that the unique markings on the orangufanged centipede's head bear a striking resemblance to a monkey, although others are sceptical. Not all reports of its nature are pleasant though, as it has been known to be likely to drag ha prey through the mud to its primitive lair, where it will force-feed it VH1 reality show gifs until it gives in and agrees to be eaten. It also attracts the opposite sex through a strange rhythmical motion known as a 'bop' before devouring them too.
