View Full Version : Couple denied a house share because they're gay and 'not regular'...
A couple trying to find a place to live in London say they were turned away from one property because they're gay.
George Poole, a marketing consultant from Kent, was looking to move to the capital with his boyfriend Matthew Greenaway.
But after enquiring about a house share, they were told they couldn't move in because the tenants were looking for a 'regular couple'. Here's the text George received, together with his response.

We're all assuming that it's because the couple are gay and that's what the couple are saying.. but for all we know, they could be like, witches or satanists and that's why the person labeled them as not 'regular'
It's probably because they're gay, but people shouldn't jump to conclusions.

They wanted a guy and girl for some reason. and?
if it were a gay house and a "regular" couple applied and the guy said sorry we are looking for a gay guy couple = ok fine.
Why is it homophobic?
They are offering a flat share not a job at the UN

It's wrong either way. 'Regular' couples shouldn't be a thing, a couple is a couple, whether mixed or same sex.

I think perhaps the gay couple were looking for offense. Probably 95% for couples are hetro so perhaps they just meant that - unless you actually know what was intended it a moot point really.

No, the people turning them down for being 'irregular' was offensive. Why would the gay couple look for offense when applying for flat shares?:conf:

Yes, I'm assuming it's offensive and you're assuming it's not...so if we apply your logic we're both in the wrong.

Why wouldn't they?
There might be many, many reasons the people deciding who shares with them didn't see this couple as suitable to live with them, only one of them being that they're gay, i don't see how their sexuality would make them not fit in with other couples.

In most cases of London Flat shares (With Working People)
they are a group of couples
with no gays.
Its Normal.
Note: There is nothing wrong with being Gay
